Shorter days mean more opportunities for break-ins. In winter, when it gets dark earlier and people are less likely to notice dodgy types scoping out the neighbourhood, it’s a good time to check your security setup.

Security doors and windows with quality mesh and triple locking systems make forced entry difficult enough that most opportunists decide your neighbour's place looks easier. Properly installed screens from a local installer who actually understands which materials work in Ballina's conditions means they'll do their job when tested (not just look good in the showroom).

After 45+ years, we've installed security screens across hundreds of Ballina homes. We use Amplimesh mesh tested at NSSA approved facilities, manufactured in-house for quality control. Better to sort it now than wait for an unwanted visitor to test your doors for you.

"What glass thickness do I need?"
"Will this fit my weird bathroom layout?"
"How do I stop my mirror getting water spots?"

If you've asked any of these questions, welcome to the club. Shower screens and custom mirrors come with more options than a Bunnings aisle on a Saturday morning.

Choosing the right glass thickness, frame style, and finish ensures durability and safety (and saves you from that heart-attack moment when you think you've cracked the screen). Custom bathroom mirrors fit exact dimensions, handy for spaces that aren't quite square. And professional installation means things actually stay put.

Get it right the first time, or spend weekends fixing it yourself. Your call.

Sliding glass doors with security mesh are like having your cake and eating it too. They let light flood in, give you easy access to the deck, provide ventilation, AND keep intruders out. That's a lot of boxes ticked.

Durable aluminium frames and quality mesh stand up to salt air and daily use without falling apart or looking shabby. And if they're designed well, they blend seamlessly with your home instead of looking like an afterthought bolted on during a weekend DIY disaster.

Light, access, ventilation, security. All in one door. Also helps when you're carrying a plate of snags in from the barbie.

Tired of being your pet's personal doorman? Every. Five. Minutes. Pet doors give them the freedom they want, and you get to stay on the couch where you belong. They can be fitted into existing screen doors or security doors without major renovations, and a proper install seals up neatly to keep the weather out.

For coastal homes, material matters. Cheap flaps crack, frames corrode, and seals give up fast. We use durable materials designed for salt air and UV. We install Petway brand doors with sizes for cats and dogs of all breeds.

Your pets get freedom, you get peace, and your door stops getting scratched to bits.

The wet season in the Northern Rivers: beautiful for the rainforest, less beautiful when water's sneaking through your window seals like an uninvited guest. Heading into winter, it's worth checking that your windows and doors are actually ready for the extra rain and wind.

Make sure seals are intact (not cracked, peeling, or doing that sad flappy thing). Clean out tracks and drainage points so water flows away instead of pooling. And lubricate moving parts, because nothing says "fun Monday morning" like a window that won't close during a downpour.

Bit of prep now, dry floors later. Unless you're into indoor water features, in which case ignore everything we just said.

Your windows are sending you signals (question is, are you listening?). If they're harder to open than a jar of Vegemite that's been in the pantry since 2019, that's a sign. Condensation between the panes? Another sign. Visible cracks? That's basically a billboard.

Damaged seals let in drafts (and we're not talking about the refreshing kind). Foggy glass reduces natural light and makes your room feel like you're living in a cloud. Not the fun, bouncy kind. The gloomy, British-weather kind.

Catch these issues early, or your window will pick its own time to bail. Usually during a storm. At night. On a long weekend.

Old glass is like an old phone screen (you don't realise how bad it looks until you replace it). Cracks, chips, and worn seals affect safety, reduce natural light, and make your room feel darker than a winter morning in Tassie.

Choosing toughened or laminated glass means durability and long-term performance (especially important when salt air is constantly testing your home's defences). Professional installation ensures everything fits securely and operates smoothly, so you're not stuck with a dodgy job that needs redoing in twelve months.

New glass = better light, better safety, clearer views. You might even want to wash the windows for once.

Shower screens cop water, soap scum, and coastal humidity every single day. And if you've ever wondered why your beautiful new screen looks like it's auditioning for a science experiment after six months, it's usually because nobody told you about the squeegee.

Use a squeegee after each shower (sounds tedious but it actually works). Clean weekly with mild detergent or vinegar solution to prevent buildup. Avoid harsh chemicals that'll damage seals and coatings faster than you can say "why is this leaking now." In coastal areas, wipe down tracks and hardware during cleaning because salt air is basically kryptonite for anything metal.

EnduroShield coating makes cleaning easier long-term. Water and soap slide off instead of sticking around like an unwanted houseguest.

Most people see the finished product (the shiny new window, the smooth-sliding door). What they don't see is the early morning start, the workshop prep, the double-checking measurements (because "measure once, curse twice" isn't a strategy we recommend).

Our team spends hours making sure every job is ready before we even leave the workshop. On-site, it's all about precision and getting it right the first time, so you don't have to deal with callbacks or dodgy installations that need fixing six months later.

Not glamorous work. Just solid work. Done right, done once.

Your window is basically waving a flag at you. Cracked glass? That's a red flag. Sticking frames that require the strength of Thor to open? Another flag. Drafts, condensation between panes, or seals that look sadder than a deflated party balloon? Yep, more flags.

Ignoring these signs is like ignoring the check engine light (sure, it MIGHT be fine, but probably not). Proper repairs restore function, improve energy efficiency, and stop your window from looking like it's given up on life.

Coastal homes need attention fast, because salt air doesn't wait around. Neither should you, unless surprise bills are your thing.
