Our family is devastated for our friends and local community. We are getting a lot of queries from flood affected houses re getting power back on to flood affected properties. We hope the following information helps you in this very stressful time.

Electricity re-connections for "flood affected properties".

There are many areas without power. Energex has shut power off as a safety precaution due to flooding. If your property has not been flooded then please be patient with Energex, all you can do is go to the Energex website and check for updates, please note the below information will not be relevant to you unless your home has had water damage to the electrical system.

If you have had flood water enter your home, then you will need to have an electrical contractor attend and make sure everything is safe for Energex to re-connect power to your property. Please note that some contractors are stating that they will leave an EWR form or certificate of test on site or in your meter box for Energex so they can re-connect your power, this is not correct and may result in lengthy delays in getting your power back on. Updated advice from Energex as at 10:30am on 2nd March 2022 is that Electrical Contractors must submit an EWR form online through the Energex portal on behalf of the customer in order for re-connections to take place.

What to expect from your electrical contractor?

• Visual assess damage from water.
• Test and disconnect unsafe circuits.
• Make the installation safe for reconnection to either full, partial, or temporary power supply.
• Submit an EWR (electrical work request) through Energex online portal so Energex can attend and restore power.

Reconnection costs may be recoverable through your insurer, it is adviseable to speak to your insurer regarding this.

We are currently working in Chelmer, Graceville, Sherwood, Corinda, Oxley, Yeronga, Rocklea and Tennyson.

If we can help, please call, text or email Mark your details. 0488 721 128, email [email protected]. If Mark is unable to answer calls he we will respond to text/emails as soon as possible.

Electrical safety when working from home
COVID-19 is rapidly changing the way we live and work every day, and telecommuting (working from home), is becoming the new reality for many of us.

Home based offices are considered a workplace under work health and safety laws so it’s important for workers and employers to work together to identify and minimise work health and safety risks at home.

You must consider the following to ensure your safety at home when using electrical equipment:

Check to see if you have a safety switch installed and that it is operational by pressing the test button before you initially start work from home and every three months thereafter
Check out how to see if you have a safety switch at https://www.worksafe.qld.gov.au/safetyswitches/safety-switch-films

Carry out a visual inspection of all electrical equipment in your home office.
Check for cuts, nicks or exposed conductors on any cords.

Check equipment for visible damage (broken covers, overheating discolouration).
Either discard any damaged equipment or have it repaired by an appropriately licensed electrical worker. Do not attempt to repair faulty equipment yourself.

Ensure leads and power boards are placed where they will not get damaged by moving furniture, chairs, foot traffic or other activities.

To avoid overheating and fire risks, don’t place papers or other items against air vents of equipment or cover equipment such as power boards or power supplies.

Don’t cover or stack up equipment under charge (e.g. phones to laptops).

Don’t permit children to touch or play with electrical cords and make sure electrical cords are not dangling from benches or within your child’s reach.

Ensure power boards and outlets are not overloaded (e.g. don’t plug in several room heaters into one power board) and are not placed where they may be splashed with liquids.

Safety switches are often confused with circuit breakers and fuses, but they perform different tasks. Safety switches monitor the flow of electricity through a circuit and turn off the power in a fraction of a second if a leakage of current is detected. Safety switches provide personal protection ag...
