Last week, 2026 launched with the exhibition: “Climate Change Architecture - ACTIONS”, focused on action developed by contemporary architecture in the face of climate change.

The exhibition presents 26 projects over in the last 15 years plus 4 case studies of the 20th century, including the Marika Alderton house by Glenn Murcutt AO, that demonstrate both adaptation and mitigation in architectural, urban, and landscape design.

Our thanks to .mantova.polimi for the invitation to be part of this event.

The Marika Alderton house by Glenn Murcutt AO (1991) features in a new exhibition opening this week at , Mantova.

The exhibition, hosted by .mantova.polimi is titled ‘Architecture and Climate < > Change ACTIONS’ - curated by Elena Montanari, Matteo Moscatelli in collaboration with Charleen Al Hadaad, Alessio Berno, Linda Crivellaro, Giorgia Fortunati, Simone Milani.

As part of 2026, the exhibition explores how design is addressing the challenges posed by new environmental conditions. Increasingly, frequent and intense extreme events, such as droughts, heatwaves, violent rainfall, and floods, are compelling architects to develop innovative strategies and rethink its foundations. Through works from different parts of the world, organized around the four primordial elements—water, air, fire, and earth—the exhibition presents the variety of responses currently being tested. Its aim is to highlight emerging design paradigms based on interdisciplinary and cross-scalar approaches, as well as on a renewed relationship with nature.

The exhibition also includes works by:
Hassan Fathy, Paolo Soleri, Baumschlager Eberle, Architekten, C+S Architects, CF Møller Architects, Designs Northwest Architects, Ecosistema Urbano, Sean Godsell Architects, Vo Trong Nghia, INOUT, Kéré Architecture, Lacaton & Vassal, Henning Larsen Architects, Atelier Liu Yuyang Architects, MoDus Architects, RiceHouse, Philippe Rahm Architectes, Snøhetta, Studio Albori, Marina Tabassum Architects and more

The exhibition runs 13 May - June 28th

The portrait of national icon and acclaimed architect, Richard Leplastrier AO by has been shortlisted in the renowned Archibald Prize at .

Quoting from the Gallery website:

A Sydney-based artist, Wilson was a practising architect until the death of her mother caused her to take stock of her life. ‘My mother always told me I should paint. She would have been so thrilled I’m an Archibald finalist.

‘I’ve had the good fortune to work with Richard on many projects. Our families are close, and he is a very dear friend. Over the years, I’ve painted him several times. My first attempt this year was a n**e of him in the bath – an outdoor Japanese wood-fired bath, where bathing is a social event in his family – which was a fail.

‘But then, at one of our many gatherings at Richard and Karen’s house on the western shores of Pittwater, we were chatting about all the things we’ve done together. It was a beautiful sunny day, everything was perfect, and that was how this portrait began.’

The Ball Eastaway house deserves another post to mark its first ever listing for sale - more than 40 years after it was designed by Glenn Murcutt AO for artists Sydney Ball and Lynne Eastaway.

Set on 25 acres of native bush just an hour north west of Sydney, the Ball Eastaway house is one of Murcutt’s most recognisable works; showcasing the galvanised iron for which he has become renowned world wide.

Recently refurbished thanks to a collaboration between Glenn Murcutt, Lynne Eastaway and .

Murcutt’s buildings appeal to a special kind of owner. Here, the stewardship extends beyond the building and to a special site, preserved as a refuge for wildlife and biodiversity into the future.

If you think you might be that special kind of steward, get in touch with our friends at .

Richard Leplastrier AO reflects on the origins of the Architecture Student Summer School, held in Sydney’s idyllic Pittwater.

Architecture is a “making art” that involves hands and the mind, and the connection between the two. That’s why it can be hard to make an academic course that deals with this reality.

It’s why the Summer School is immersive - in the environment in which a design project is set; with lectures, walks, building tours and presentations.

21 years on since its inception, the Summer School continues to offer students and recent graduates the best bounce into the year - whether that involves study or architectural practice…or both.

The Summer School culminates in the most intensive of our tours to learn from 2 projects by : Swirling Waters and Indian Head house in Avalon.

Sharing stories from the project’s life; such as siting, materials and details, client drivers and more, this is a deep dive into what makes architecture truly work in its particular place.

The Summer School ends as the university year begins and we so often hear that our new alumni can’t think of a better way to prepare for the year ahead.

Richard Leplastrier shares the secrets of the ‘live line’ as practiced by Alvar Aalto and Joern Utzon. The circle, a tangent, a straight line - the relationship between each carefully calibrated.
