First real day back on the lathe after my surgery. Made these two little perfume atomisers. Elf number one had been pestering me for one, so the first one made from Southern Silky Oak is for her (grandad’s favourite wood), the second is made from Australian Gidgee and has a small resin decoration on the cap.

Had a little practice time on the lathe today. Made these two little 75mm bowls from a piece of Gidgee. These came from either side of the pith. It is a very hard timber and quite often I threaten to throw it in the fire but the end result always satisfies.
This will also be the last opportunity that I have for a few weeks as I will be having a hernia surgery next week and will have to be off the tools for possibly six weeks.

Today Emma made this little Bud Vase. Her first experience with a gouge, she did very well even though I had to slow her down so that she didn’t take away too much wood. The timber is unknown, a piece that I rescued many years ago from a bin at High School and never did anything with. Finished with Grape seed oil.
