Aaaand that's a wrap folks! Thanks to everyone who came to our last nomad nursery plant sale yesterday.

It's been a ride here at the space in Carey Gully, learned a lot and troubleshooted so many random things here to grow plants but very grateful to go out on a nice high having achieved a lot in a small time.

Like we mentioned a lot yesterday, you can get plants from Jackson's honesty stall or come visit one of my (Kym's) workshops around Adelaide. Whiiiich is the perfect segway into following our other accounts/businesses:

Jackson – https://www.urbangrowboi.com.au/
(Farmer / Ex-Chef+market gardener extraordinaire / CSA Veggie boxes / future children’s book author)

Kym – Kym Ormond Sustainable living workshops / Ex chef+everything permaculture / occasional folk-punk musician) www.kymormond.com.au

P.S. I only took one photo from today when Jackson was sideways in his Van totally ready for a nap, I used a realistic handsome filter over his headshot. Felt like it was a good compromise and you can barely even notice it!

Hey plant fam, we have some news, after a lot of chats and consideration between Jackson and I we’ve decided to hang up the Nomad Nursery boots. We will have our last and final plant sale on the 14th of March then that’s it from us.

Over the past year (and a bit) our other businesses have grown so much that we unfortunately don’t have the time to keep the plant nursery going as a side hustle.

For the final sale on the 14th of March we’ll have all of our remaining stock discounted and then that’ll be us riding off into the sunset. Big thanks to everyone who’s supported our short run from October 2024 to now but you gotta know when to hold ‘em and when to fold ‘em.

Catch you all on the 14th of March for the last plant sale hurrah

Hey plant fam, we have some news, after a lot of chats and consideration between Jackson and I we’ve decided to hang up the Nomad Nursery boots. We will have our last and final plant sale on the 14th of March then that’s it from us.

Over the past year (and a bit) our other businesses have grown so much that we unfortunately don’t have the time to keep the plant nursery going as a side hustle.

Although nomad has had a gradual increase in profits, our customers are supportive, we have the best landlords and the business partnership is strong. The big downside is that we’re at this awkward space in the business where we need to scale up Nomad to make it worthwhile financially but with the time input competing against other businesses it unfortunately doesn’t make sense.

We also tried every format with the nursery to try and make this work from online ordering + direct delivery, subscription based plant box, direct retail sales and tried to crack into the closed gate of wholesale plants to other nurseries. Ironically direct retail sales worked the best but had the worst clash with our other businesses schedules.

For the final sale on the 14th of March we’ll have all of our remaining stock discounted and then that’ll be us riding off into the sunset. Big thanks to everyone who’s supported our short run from October 2024 to now but you gotta know when to hold ‘em and when to fold ‘em.

Update: Saturdays plant sale is cancelled 😞

Update: Saturdays Nomad Nursery sale is cancelled 😞

Yesterday at the nursery our electricity cut out for our retail space, which then cut off our irrigation timers in the peak of the hottest day thus far and we lost a lot of our retail stock.

Sorry to those who were keen to come back in but it doesn't really make sense to scramble what we have for Saturday. We've decided to pause sales for now and will keep you updated as we go.

💚 Kym & Jackson

Nomad nursery is back open tomorrow for our monthly sale!

The plant pictured is a Yarrow "Terracotta, a beautiful variation to the standard Achillea millefolium with a bright orangey-red flower. The plant itself clumps a bit more than the white Yarrow and is a beautiful understory in a garden.

A big thank you from us here at Nomad Nursery for the huge support over the last three Saturdays.

The October heirloom tomato sales were a smash hit and our little new independent nursery really saw some traction.

Exciting to see so many new faces and people coming in specifically to buy our plants that we've been growing and propagating for this spring season.

Nomad Nursery is only 13ish months old so it's still early days but super exciting to see where this can go.

Thanks everyone 💚 and you can catch us at our next plant sales in 2025:

Tomato season is in full swing at Nomad Nursery!

We’ve got 29 heirloom tomato varieties ready for you, plus a huge mix of spring herbs, veg, edible perennials and flowers.

Everything’s grown right here at our nursery in the picturesque Carey Gully, so you’re supporting us directly - we’re a direct grower-to-gardener nursery.

Our tomatoes are grown in ‘tubestock’, which means they have deeper, healthier roots. We grow in a mix that uses certified organic compost, and don’t use any growth inhibitors, pesticides, fungicides or synthetic fertilisers.

Our main goal is to grow affordable edible plants for locals, using organic inputs. Perfect for folks who care about where their food comes from and how it's grown.

Heirloom Tomato Sale dates:
🌻 Saturday, October 18, 8:30am - 1pm
🌻 Saturday, October 35, 8:30am - 1pm

The October spring special is $3each or 10 for $25 for all tomatoes and all other tubestock (whatabargain!)

It's the 1st of October which means we are officially in the tomato sale season here at Nomad Nursery!

We have grown 29 heirloom tomatoes that are good to grow and will be available at our nursery across 3 Saturdays on the 11th, 18th and 25th of October.

This list gives you the rundown on each of the varieties and which would suit your garden. All of our tomatoes are grown in tubes this season, which means they are sold as individual plants (1 plant per pot).

Each tube is $3each or we do 10 tubes for $25. That deal runs across all of our tubestock, so if you want to get a mix of tomatoes + herbs you can mix and match.

Besides the 5400 tomatoes we've grown, we also have a huge mix of leafy greens, lettuces, annual herbs, perennial herbs, groundcovers, alliums, flowers + loads of other spring favourites like corn, zucchinis, cucumber, beans, basil and loooads more!

Share this around and let all your garden buddies know that we have some super rad heirloom tomatoes and so many trays of great Carey Gully grown heirloom plants available this season 💚

Thanks to everyone who came to our spring herb sale at Nomad on Saturday, now we're back into counting down to our October heirloom tomato sales!

Two cherry tomato varieties today:

Ice #14
Ice is a pale white tomato that ripens to a creamy ivory-creamy yellow with just a hint of blush when fully ripe. Super beautiful colour to include In a salad.

Somewhat mild to sweet flavour with a low acid hit but very juicy for their size. Perfect if you like a refreshing tomato that’s not too intense.

The plant is an indeterminate grower, so it’ll keep producing right through the season with a bit of support. A great pick if you’re after something a little different to mix things up. 75 days to harvest. Ive found with white/yellow tomatoes birds and pests tend to be less prone to go on full attack mode as the colour change to ripe is less obvious.

Orange cherry #15
The orange cherry is a bright, sweet little tomato that comes on fast and doesn’t slow down. Small, round, and vivid orange, these are the ones you’ll find yourself eating off the vine before they make it into the kitchen.

The flavour is juicy and well balanced with a good mix of sweetness, tang and super moreish. The skin is thin, the texture is great.and they just keep coming.

The plant is indeterminate and is a prolific cropper. Great for a home garden if you're not sure what cherry tomato to grow this season that absolutely pumps. 65-70 days to harvest.

11 more sleeps and then our heirloom tomato sale #1 is all systems grow on the 11th of October!

#13 in the 2025 heirloom tomato sales, say hello to the Green Zebra tomato

This one’s a standout in colour and flavour with its vibrant green and yellow stripes. The Green Zebra tomato has a nice tangy tart flavour with a subtle sweetness that’s unlike your typical tomato. Perfect on its own or added to a salad. Believe it or not this tomato goes down great being pickled as well!

An indeterminate (vine) variety, maturing in about 75 days and holding up well against cracking. If you're looking for something a little different, this one’s worth a try.

This variety is normally pretty popular so we'll see how long it lasts.

Graf Zeppelin is our #12 in the .nursery heirloom tomato sale 🍅

This is one of those quiet achiever tomatoes that has strong growth, is super productive and a reliable fruiting tomato.

It produces mediumish tomatoes around 6 cm wide slightly flattened at the top. Nice flavour that makes it a standout for salads and fresh eating. Nothing flashy or over the top with this one, just a really good tomato plant that produces lots of tomatoes.

The interesting thing about Graf Zeppelin is its bushy semi determinate growth habit, reaching only about 1.3m tall. Still benefits from a stake to lean on for support but doesn't grow as vigorously as an indeterminate vine tomato.

A great choice if you’re after a solid all-rounder with excellent flavour and a yield in a smaller space.

12 🍅 down, 16 to go 🫡
