It has been a joy to welcome into our home as part of their ‘We Live In Your World’ campaign. Through a series of videos, I share some of the spaces, objects and rituals that make our home feel uniquely ours - from my favourite hideaway; a quiet second living room perfect for reading or tackling a puzzle, and my picks of the Hali rugs collection, to the much-loved duck ornament we simply can’t part with.

Creating a sense of warmth and welcome is something I value deeply, both at home and in my work. Along the way, I also reveal the one item I couldn’t live without - a practical piece of tech that has become an indispensable part of daily life (and might not be what you’d expect!)

Most people think the exterior of a home is about choosing a style.

It isn’t.

It’s about three dimensional problem solving. Shape. Scale. Proportion. Style comes last, not first.

We’re back at our Bondi Junction project. The floor plan is finalised. Now we move to the Exterior Design Phase, where we design the home in three dimensions so our clients can see what will get built before it gets built.

Three decisions defined this home.

The facade. Our clients walked in attached to the double brick they already had. They walked out wanting Spanish Mission. Sometimes the brief reveals itself in the process, not the kickoff.

The alfresco. We’d placed it in the sunniest part of the site. Logical on paper. Wrong in practice. A Sydney summer changed their mind. We moved it next to the living room and added a retractable shade.

The doors. Steel was the original spec. Double glazed timber performs better thermally, performs better acoustically, and reads correctly for Spanish Mission. We changed it.

None of these decisions were obvious from day one. All of them emerged from sitting in a room together and testing ideas live.

That’s what concept design is for.
