Poinciana are out in colour at the moment, how magnificent do they look? were asked to prune one in Serpentine recently to tighten the shape up. We advised the client not to 'lop' the tree, but target prune to create more space within the canopy. If you'd like us to take a look at one of your specimen trees as you'd like an expert eye cast over it, please give us a call or PM us.

With the help of Australia, we analysed the soil and found it was lacking in certain nutrients, the soil biology need some help. Aerating the soil and using a special blended mix from the boys at , the trees are starting to respond and show new growth.

A recent call out to a horse property in Byford, to look at a large tree that had blown over unexpectedly. The tree had been slowly dying, constricted by its own root system, denying it of essential nutrients to sustain itself. Girdling roots need to be removed as soon as possible to avoid tree failure. Call a professional Arborist to help with the safe removal.

Think twice before you damage or remove that street tree.
Nearly all councils or shires have street trees, some more than others. It's a popular misconception that councils wouldn't know if one of their street trees was removed. They actually do know. All councils have a street tree inventory, that details the type, age, canopy spread, and cost of replacement. Many times we've been asked to take a street tree down, to which I reply, "no, we can't". Each tree is allocated an amenity value, as the article explains.
Value factors in the variety, age, life expectancy, and amenity value. The tree below has a value estimated to be around $12'000.00

If you'd like to value one of your trees, or look at any tree work on your property, please contact one of our team via PM.

Urgent call out today.
Having the right equipment and 2-3 crews available, enables us to deal with emergencies such as these. Of course, we can't always get to everyone straight away, although we try, but we're not normally too far away.
This large Eucalyptus camaldulensis (River red gum) came down blocking an entrance to a college.
If you've had some major damage to any of your trees, or one may have blown over, please reach out and give us a call. Ph: 0407511639

The birds are eating our trees.
There have been a number of occasions, when people have asked me, why do birds (mainly parrots) eat the bark off the trees? The jury is still out, but a number of studies and theories have been presented. The birds are looking for food, boring insects or larvae that live in the cambium, this has been suggested if the surrounding food source is in short supply. They're after starches or sugars, or the exudate as the tree responds, and several other theories. we're called out to a construction site recently, where a sizeable branch had failed, and nearly hit 3 workers who were working underneath. After inspecting where the limb had failed up in the canopy, it was clear the cause was bird damage. Large sections of the bark had been peeled away, exposing the heartwood/sapwood, that subsequently dried out, and lost its ability to flex in the high winds. The limb's inability to move and bend lead to its ultimate failure.

Destructive high winds.
Did you lose any trees last week? were called out on a number of occasions, with cries for help. One 28m tall, Eucalyptus globulus (Tasmanian blue gum) toppled over due to excessive soil saturation and the strong wind. The usual small, gentle flowing stream, had become a raging river. The tree which had been growing by the stream for 30-40 years, was now engulfed by a strong current, This had the result of washing away a considerable amount of soil from around the root plate, and destabilised the tree. Unfortunately, where it fell, blocked off an access road, to a number of units. Making safe and cutting through the debris was the first priority, the clean up followed the next day. For after hours callouts or emergency work, please give us a call on the office number.

Soil amelioration.
Soil is made up of various elements: mineral particles, organic matter, air, water, and both living and non-living organisms. When we analyse the soil, generally, because a tree is lacking in vigour or showing signs of stress, we look at the chemical analysis, the soil biology, and the physical characteristics, all contribute to the healthy growth and vtality of the tree.
Looking at the soil, and its make-up is a crucial part of keeping the tree healthy.
We spend a fortune on soil mixes, special composts and liquids for our plants, but we overlook our trees.

There are many factors that can influence the growth of a tree, and the soil is a big one. Create the ideal growing conditions, and your tree will thrive.
