- Fully insured. What does fertilizer do for lawns? The three main ingredients of a good lawn fertilizer are:
Nitrogen – Which promotes healthy leaf growth and improves the color of the leaf through photosynthesis. Phosphorus – Which strengthens the root and stem system. Potassium – Giving your lawn strength in drought conditions and helps fight of disease. A strong healthy lawn makes it more difficult for weeds to establish. Dethatching is a process where you remove both dead and alive organic matter from your lawn which then allows air, water and nutrients into the soil, which promotes a healthier and lush lawn. A typical sign that your lawn needs dethatching is when you walk on it and it feels spongy. See the photo
Aerating
Overtime due to heavy foot traffic or heavy rain, lawns become compacted, which stops air, water and fertilizers from circulating throughout the root system of your lawn. Heavy rain also causes what nutrients are in your lawns to leach out and wash away. Aerating or coring maybe required to reverse the cycle and once again produce a healthy, green, lush lawn. While dethatching and aerating may sound expensive. It’s not as big an issue as you might imagine.
