This afternoon I received a call after a possum was found sleeping on the ground in a backyard.

A Ringtail Possum sleeping on the ground during the day is not normal behaviour. These animals are arboreal, meaning they live in trees and usually rest high up in leaf nests called dreys. Finding one on the ground is often a strong indication that it may be sick, injured, dehydrated or orphaned.

After arriving, it was obvious its behaviour wasn’t normal. I carefully placed it into a large container with blankets to keep it safe and comfortable before heading straight to Vets Of Geelong, where it can be properly assessed and receive the care it needs.

While most people know me as a snake catcher, I’m a licensed wildlife controller, so I regularly assist with all sorts of native wildlife - including possums, birds and everything in between.

Every native animal deserves the best chance possible. ❤️🦘🐍
