💜 What a week it’s been celebrating the incredible women of Western Victoria and beyond.

Over the past week, I’ve had the pleasure of shining a light on some truly inspiring women from across our region as part of our International Women’s Day spotlight series.

From community champions and small business owners to leaders in trades, agriculture, events, sustainability and advocacy - these women help shape the strength and character of Western Victoria every day.

To the wonderful women featured in our series - and to the many more quietly making a difference in our communities every day - thank you. Our region is stronger because of you.

This International Women’s Day, I’m proud to shine a light on Jaime Woollett and Tracey Melville - the driving force behind Women in Trade Geelong & the Surf Coast.

I’ve seen firsthand the difference they’re making.

From completing her apprenticeship at The Gordon to running her own plumbing business, Jaime is showing what’s possible - and helping create inclusive, supportive workplaces for women across our region.

Together, Jaime and Tracey are leading a grassroots movement that’s opening real pathways for women - supporting, connecting and empowering women to build strong, sustainable careers in trades.

This is leadership grounded in action. Quietly reshaping an industry. Creating opportunity. Strengthening confidence.

Because when women are supported to step into trades, our whole community benefits.

Western Victoria is stronger because of women like them. 💜



Women in Trade - Geelong & The SurfCoast I Equality Plumbing Geelong I A Helping Hand

Did you know this project was built 50% females? How cool is that. 👷‍♀️🏗️

From the ground up, this build showcases the incredible contribution women are making across the construction industry.

Site excavation was carried out by Sam at Dumpin It Pty Ltd.
Plumbing was completed by Jaime and Kelsey at Equality Plumbing Geelong. 🔧
Carpentry and structural work was contributed by Brianna and Billy at Equality Carpentry Brianna McFarlane Carpentry . 🪚
The design was led by a female architect, bringing the whole vision together.

Alongside the trades, the owner also played a huge role in the build, assisting with the landscaping, fencing, painting, cabinetry, tiling, caulking and more.

What makes this even more special is that she had barely picked up tools before. Seeing women working confidently on site inspired her to give it a go herself, so she jumped in to assist and learned along the way. 🥰

Women are increasingly entering the trades, bringing skill, encouragement, leadership, and fresh perspectives to the industry. Projects like this show just how strong and capable our workforce becomes when opportunities are open to everyone.

Women are welcome. Women belong in trades. And the industry is stronger for it. 💪

💜✨ IWD SPOTLIGHT: WOMEN BUILDING THE FUTURE - JACQUELINE TIPPETT ✨💜

At South West TAFE's Sherwood Park campus in Warrnambool, I had the pleasure of meeting Jacqueline - a carpentry graduate turned trades teacher helping lead the charge to attract, retain and train more women in construction.

From starting her own apprenticeship at 21 to now coordinating programs supporting women into Cert II and III qualifications, Jacqueline is proof that when women back themselves, incredible things happen.

Her message is clear: women belong in the trades - on the tools, in workshops and in leadership roles.

This International Women’s Day, I’m proud to celebrate women like Jacqueline who are building pathways for the next generation.

Western Victoria is stronger because of women like her. 💜

Huge shoutout to my beautiful friend Prue who jumped in today and helped me with some work I needed an extra set of hands for. 🙌💛

Prue absolutely smashed it — from the tricky, tight spaces to the big, heavy jobs — she got in, gave it her all, and reminded me just how powerful it is when women back each other in this industry.

It’s not just about getting the job done… it’s about showing up, learning, supporting one another and proving (again!) that women in trades are strong, capable, and unstoppable. 🛠️💪

If anyone is ever looking for an amazing labourer, someone reliable, hardworking and genuinely lovely to have on site — let me know, Prue is your girl! 👏💙

So grateful for today. More women helping women — this is what it’s all about. 💫
