The Rosella flower, also known as Hibiscus sabdariffa, is not just a beautiful addition to your garden; it’s a powerhouse of health benefits and culinary delights!

Growing Rosella:
These vibrant flowers thrive in warm climates and enjoy full sunlight! With proper care, they can flourish and brighten up your garden. However I have found that they are easier to grow closer to the east coasts of Australia - the hot dry heat of the central west can sometimes stall the sprouting of seed and I didn’t have much luck sparking these on the farm. Needed to get them started in Sydney (thanks mum) to then return to ground back home on country. They are flourishing now that they have a little strength behind them .

Rosella isn’t just pretty—it's also tasty! Dry for delightful teas and makes a mean jam, it adds a tangy flavor to your dishes and is rich in antioxidants. Love mine in a glass of champagne.

Today was pretty interesting. I noticed a native bee for the first time while wandering around my garden. Normally i just see the regular bees but native bees not so much.

The flowers I’ve planted are unexpectedly drawing in the regular bees easy enough.. and, hopefully, this is a sign im planting the right balance to attract the native bees too.

Native bees are vital to our ecosystem, playing several important roles:
1. Pollination: Native bees are key pollinators for many plants, including fruits, vegetables, and wildflowers. This process increases crop yields and biodiversity.
2. Biodiversity Support: By pollinating a variety of plants, they help maintain healthy ecosystems and support the growth of diverse plant species.
3. Habitat Creation: Some plants that native bees pollinate are crucial for creating habitats for other wildlife, providing food and shelter.
4. Soil Health: Flowers that attract native bees contribute to healthy soil through root systems that prevent erosion and enhance nutrient cycling. Usually they’re native flora adapted to the land.
5. Food Source: Native bees themselves become a food source for predators, contributing to the food web and ecological balance.
6. Cultural Significance: in our cultural stories, native bees have significant ecological and cultural importance, symbolising the connection between nature and community which makes a whole lot of sense to me now.

🌾🐐🐇🐔 Transforming Our Land with Love and Livestock! 🌱✨

Over the last 12 months, we've embarked on an incredible journey of land regeneration through the power of our amazing animals! By rotating our goats, rabbits, and chickens across the fields, we’ve harnessed their natural abilities to fertilize and rejuvenate our harsh, dry country.

Their rich manure has been a game-changer, enriching the soil and breathing new life into the ecosystem. We've seen firsthand the stunning transformation – from parched earth to thriving greenery! 🌍💚 The chickens not only provide nutrient-rich fertilizer but also help with pest control, making our farm even more sustainable!

Join us in celebrating this holistic approach to farming and nurturing our land. Together, let's continue to mend and restore nature, one hoof, paw, and feather at a time! 🐾🌼

Update on the chicken coop AKA “Fluffy Butt hut” ultimately decided on the heritage breed Speckled Sussex lines. I was drawn to their dual purpose and reputation with personality .

With Currently 8 girls and 1 rooster named Latrell in the hut - and have 1 isa brown rooster in the Garden Coop named Bulla. Pllan Is to breed three lines maybe four.

To my surprise im collecting just under a dozen a day eggs - on a mix of scratch vege scraps and magic water. The Hutt moves on a fortnightly basis to fresh pasture and they are an absolute gem in breaking down the grass for the new seed.

Have 24 eggs in the incubator ready to hatch in the next 5 days, fingers crossed for our first round at hatching .

growing your own food can lead to a healthier, more sustainable lifestyle that benefits both you and the environment.

The plan isn’t to just stop there . It’s to work towards building a network that contributes towards native food regeneration .

growing native foods can support environmental sustainability, promote cultural heritage, and enhance biodiversity, making it a valuable practice for individuals and communities alike.

This page is not about telling anyone how it is or proving that I “know all” it’s about sharing and connectivity .

I truly believe that together we are stronger . Just looking for like minded people to share at the table.
