We are honoured to announce that last night the 24 Carrot Gardens received the 2025 AILA National Landscape Architecture Award for Community Contribution.

Jury Citation: 24 Carrot Gardens demonstrates the transformative role that landscape architecture can play in fostering healthy, resilient communities. Delivered across nine Tasmanian schools, the program empowers students through a participatory design process that creates inclusive, productive and calming spaces for growing, harvesting and learning. By embedding skills and knowledge around food production, nutrition, waste management and sustainability into the heart of education, the gardens promote environmental stewardship and community resilience while improving student wellbeing and engagement. The jury commends this inspiring partnership for investing in Tasmania’s future leaders and for elevating the role of landscape architects as educators, collaborators and advocates for community health.

We would like to thank for the award and congratulate our client and collaborators from and for their ongoing vision and commitment to improving the well being of students and school communities across Tasmania.

Clarence City Heart – a community-informed vision for an activated city centre

Inspiring Place is proud to have partnered with MGS Architects on the City Heart Vision — a bold 20-year plan shaping the future of the City of Clarence.

The vision connects eight distinct precincts — Rosny Park, Kangaroo Bay, Bellerive Village, Warrane and the Rosny Parklands — into a vibrant network celebrating play, arts, culture, community, and ecology. Each precinct retains its own character while contributing to a unified city centre alive day and night.

The plan celebrates place, people and nature — restoring landscapes, creating a wild park edge along the highway, and re-imagining Kangaroo Bay Rivulet as a healthy, biodiverse waterway linking Warrane to the foreshore.

At its heart is Connection to Country, recognising First Nations culture and relationship to land and water through natural materials, storytelling, and spaces for community, food and ceremony.

Arts, culture and youth are central, with an expanded Rosny Farm arts hub, new maker and gallery spaces, and an active sports park encouraging participation and belonging.

The plan also strengthens local business and housing diversity, creating mixed-use opportunities and better parking on Council-owned sites.

We commend and their team for their leadership and collaboration. Inspiring Place looks forward to supporting the projects that will bring the City Heart vision to life.

West Esplanade Foreshore Park Transformation

Our design for the West Esplanade Foreshore Park reimagines Smithton’s riverfront as a vibrant, inclusive, and ecologically rich community destination. Guided by principles of responsiveness, inclusivity, and accessibility, the master plan restores native coastal habitats, strengthens connections to the Duck River, and celebrates local character through natural materials and endemic planting. It creates playful, inclusive, and multi-sensory spaces that support diverse community needs while encouraging exploration, learning, and connection with place.

The park offers a diverse mix of spaces and experiences — from the Coastal Park’s restored ecosystems and water access terraces to a central turf zone for community events, an inclusive regional playground, and a new skatepark and pump track co-located with amenities and gathering areas. Multi-use hardcourts, accessible paths, and safe, welcoming facilities ensure the park caters to people of all ages and abilities.

The project was a key action of our Circular Head Open Space Strategy (endorsed in 2024) and has been shaped through a strong spirit of collaboration — with contributions from local school students and teachers, the broader community and local Aboriginal communities, Circular Head Landcare and Connected Communities.

Circular Head Council unanimously endorsed the master plan, recognising its strong alignment with the Council’s Connected Communities Goal and Environmental Stewardship Plan. Council has committed to funding 50% of the amenities and play space in the 2025/26 financial year and to including the remaining works in the Long Term Financial Plan — an exciting step toward realising this transformative community vision.

We gratefully acknowledge our collaborators , , , , and for their valuable contributions and guidance.

On Monday night, Devonport City Council voted unanimously to endorse the design and location of a permanent memorial honouring the six children — Chace Harrison, Jalailah Jayne-Maree Jones, Zane Mellor, Addison Stewart, Jye Sheehan, and Peter Dodt — who tragically lost their lives during Hillcrest Primary School’s end-of-year celebrations on 16 December 2021.

Inspiring Place has had the honour and privilege of working alongside the children’s families for the past two years, supporting them through a careful and deeply considered co-design process.

From the beginning, it was essential that the voices, memories, and wishes of the families remained at the heart of the design. Co-design with the families has ensured that the memorial will be more than a place of remembrance; it is a shared space of comfort, reflection, and enduring community strength. This ongoing collaboration also offers an opportunity for healing by providing a sense of ownership, connection, and purpose amidst unimaginable loss.

We extend our deepest gratitude to the families for their trust, generosity, and courage.

With this milestone reached, the project will now progress into the design development stage.
