Epoxy doesn't stick to smooth concrete. That's the whole reason the prep on Darren's garage in Golden Grove took as long as it did.

We pulled the pavers away at the entry so we could get at the vertical face properly. The lip of the garage had spalling - where the surface flakes and breaks away - so that got ground back and filled with a tinted epoxy putty, along with every crack and chip in the slab.

On softer, porous floors like this there's an extra step so pinholes don't form in the moisture barrier coat. Then it's sanded through a few screens for a good scratch pattern, the tinted coat goes on, flake gets broadcast and rolled into it, scraped smooth and top coated.

Most of that you'll never see once it's done. That's sort of the point.

Nine months on at the Mount Barker Bottle & Can.

This floor gets a hammering on the daily - w**e bottles, barrels, the lot - and it's still holding up. That's a testament to proper preparation and a two coat system over it, done to the manufacturer's specs.
