Little trees can often be the most awkward!

This established yellow box (E. melliodora) was struggling with a thinning canopy, likely the product of drought stress and possum browsing. Though possums browsing is a normal pressure experienced by our native trees, it can become problematic when coupled with drought pressure. Browsing can become a feedback loop, where the new leaves and shoots are the most palatable to the possums.

For back leaning trees like this one we use an open scarf, a thick hinge and winch power for control the whole way over. You can hear the wood fibres breaking throughout the arc, showing the hinge at work.

It also helps to have heaps of space 😋

Not the sort of Christmas tree you want inside your house! Though you’d definitely out do the rival dad with this one 🎄

We got this large conifer safely down and cleaned up for our client in Ferny Creek. The tree had a slight weight bias towards the house due to its northerly direction, meaning we had to get the felling right. We cleared some smaller neighbouring trees and branches that were going to collide. Then climbed up to secure a heavy-duty pull line, which was used to winch the tree over.

Good day climbing for .p_trees last week, We took this dead southern mahogany (Eucalyptus botryoides) down to fence as requested by the client. Was tight access but we smashed it.

This was a fun one!

Unfortunately this stringy bark had died and in the long term posed a risk of failing and damaging the sculpture, to mitigate this we cut the tree down to a safe height while preserving as much habitat as possible. We even got to carve some hollows !

Habitat pruning can often be a cheaper and more ecologially mindful practice compared to a full removal.
