Environment is so important.
Two Lophostemon confertus, aka brush box, planted in Brisbane at the same time.
Both watered through the first year.
LHS trunk circumference 25cm 1 metre above soil level.
RHS trunk 52cm circumference 1 metre above soil level.
The difference in crown development and the amount of shade cast is obvious. The larger specimen also sports a noisy friarbird nest.
An interesting example of how much harder it is to establish a sapling tree in turf than in a garden bed.
Councils take note.
