Full front yard succulent garden makeover 8 x 4.5mtrs. It was on a slight slope from the road to the house, so we incorporated a dry creek bed giving this area a additional element.

Thought I’d do a post on this plant cause it has such a striking flower and very easily grown from cuttings. This herb grows nicely in pots or in a rockery, where it integrates well with succulents.

DOGBANE - Coleus canina
A perennial herb from the mint family, which grows to 15 cm high or 30 cm when the flowers stalks appear.

Prefers full sun to part shade. Flowering through the warmer months and yes flowering now in our August.

Dogs and cats are reputed to be able to smell the aroma on intact leaves and be repelled from the plant but also described as "poisonous to dogs." It’s also been recommended as an insect repellent.

Medicine: The roots are used for heart stimulants. Mashed leaves are used for rheumatism and applied to wounds.
