🔥 Chimney sweeping season is well and truly underway and I'm starting to get into the swing of it.

With the colder weather settling in, the busy season is only going to get busier from here. If you're planning on running your wood heater regularly this winter, now is a great time to have your flue checked and cleaned before it sees constant use.

A clean flue helps your heater perform better and reduces the build up of soot and creosote that can become a fire hazard.

If your chimney hasn't been swept in a while, don't leave it until the middle of winter when everyone is trying to book in at once.

🌫️ Early start at the Mannum Club this morning and the fog certainly made for a different view.

There's something about those quiet mornings where the river disappears into the mist and everything seems to slow down for a little while.

Not a bad way to start the day before getting stuck into work.

🍄 Look what I found hiding in a client's lawn today! 🍄

One minute you're mowing grass, the next you've discovered a tiny mushroom patch.

Mushrooms often pop up after moisture and warm conditions, feeding on organic matter beneath the surface. They're usually a sign that nature is busy doing its thing underground.

Always interesting what turns up when you're out and about maintaining properties!

🌱 Ever noticed how some lawns seem to have that extra crisp, professional look?

A lot of it comes down to mowing direction. As the grass blades are bent in different directions, they reflect sunlight differently, creating the light and dark stripes often seen on sports fields and well maintained lawns.

Changing mowing patterns also helps prevent the grass from continually leaning the same way and can contribute to a more even appearance over time.

It's amazing how something as simple as the direction of the mower can completely change the presentation of a lawn.

☀️ What I've Been Up To In Wongulla ☀️

Spent some time in Wongulla recently cleaning a set of solar panels.

It's always interesting seeing the difference between panels that have had a season or two of dust, pollen, bird droppings and general build up compared to when they're freshly cleaned.

Solar panels are one of those things that often go unnoticed because they're up on the roof, but they certainly collect their fair share of dirt over time.

A beautiful day to be working along the river and enjoying the views that Wongulla has to offer.

🪟 Did you know not all glass should be cleaned the same way?

Many modern homes in Mannum and surrounding areas have Low E glass, which has a special microscopic coating designed to improve energy efficiency by reflecting heat.

How can you identify Low E glass?
✅ Look for a small label or etching in the corner of the window.
✅ Hold a flame (such as a lighter) near the glass at night. If one of the reflections appears a slightly different colour to the others, it may be Low E glass.
✅ Check your building paperwork or ask the window manufacturer if you're unsure.

⚠️ Low E glass can be more sensitive to scratches and improper cleaning methods, which is why using the correct techniques and equipment is important.

🔥 How do you know if your flue might be blocked? 🔥

One of the easiest signs to watch for is the amount of smoke coming from your flue cowling.

✅ A healthy flue will usually have a steady flow of smoke when the fire is first lit, which often reduces as the fire heats up and burns efficiently.

⚠️ Possible signs of a blockage or heavy creosote build up include:
• Smoke spilling back into the room
• Difficulty getting the fire started
• Fire burning sluggishly
• Strong smoky smells indoors
• Very little smoke exiting the flue despite a well established fire
• Excessive smoke from the cowling long after the fire is hot
