Phalaenopsis Orchid CARE

🪴Soil - use a special orchid potting mix with bark. Coarse bark would suit larger orchids while fine grade bark would suit younger plants. The more coarse bark - the quicker it will dry out. Use pots with drainage.

☀️Sunlight - keep in medium to bright indirect light but out of strong direct light. The plant can grow in low light but will not bloom.

💧Watering - let the soil dry out between waterings. Only use filtered water for watering. Try not to splash water on the stems and leaves as it can cause them to rot.

💦Humidity - preferably 40-70 %. You can use fine mist mister or humidifier during summer months.

😊Fertiliser - use specialised orchid fertiliser during active growth. You can also use bloom booster (late summer, autumn).

🍃PRO tips: plant your orchid in a transparent plastic pot so you can inspect the roots frequently. Light green silvery roots - are healthy, brown mushy roots - sign of overwatering or root rot, cut them off when replanting. Less light - dormant period (not flowering), move to lighter spot to induce blooming. Wipe leaves regularly to remove dust🍃

🙌 Recommendations - thrives in bright and humid spots of your home; suitable for bright bathrooms and bedrooms.

👇TIPS TO GROW LARGE HEALTHY PLANTS👇

✨Light is #1 - you need lots of bright indirect light (medium light would be sufficient for some plants) or invest in grow lights

✨Soil is ALSO #1 - most plants don’t like being put into just any potting mix. Each plant has individual requirements to soil + you may also need to provide plants with more aeration and drainage if you are a serial overwaterer 💁‍♀️

✨Food - most plants do not require feeding 3 -5 months after repotting. And there are many indoor plants that will push out new growth without any feeding for years. However, you can help your plants to grow a little bit faster, just add a slow-release or a very diluted fertiliser 2-3 times a year (spring & summer). Make sure not use any concentrated fertilisers without dilution and do not use fertilisers when your plant is sick.

🖋Remember: fertiliser is a double edged sword - it can help your plant to grow faster but it can also kill your plant if applied incorrectly.

Marble Queen Pothos - CARE

🪴Soil - use a nutrient-rich well-draining potting mix. Mix in some perlite or orchid bark to improve aeration. Use only pots with drainage. The plant is prone to root rot. Repot once every 1-2 years (depending on new growth).

☀️Sunlight - prefers bright well-lit environments. Can tolerate early morning direct sun but generally keep out of strong direct light. Low light will result in decreased variegation (plant will produce mostly green leaves).

💧Watering - let the soil dry out between waterings. Only use filtered water for watering.

💦Humidity - thrive in moderate to high humidity. If humidity in your house is lower than 50% place them near a humidifier or on a pebble tray with a little bit of water (make sure soil and roots are not sitting in water).

😊Fertiliser - fertiliser is optional. Fertilise once or twice per growing period (spring & summer). Use fertiliser moderately high in nitrogen. Dilute fertiliser to 1/2 the strength.

🍃PRO tips: trim lengthy stems in early spring to encourage bushy growth; the plant grows aerial roots on its stems to attach itself to the surrounding objects, do not push them into soil; browning leaf edges - under-watering or a lack of humidity; brown/yellow spots on leaves - over-watering, fungal root issues🍃

🙌 Recommendations - generally marble queen pothos are drama-free houseplants; thrive in bright humid room such as kitchens and bathrooms. Suitable for beginners.

If you’re lucky enough to have luxurious bright bathroom with lots of natural light, then you can skip this post. But many homes and city apartments feature bathrooms with small windows that let little light in. Here is my top 5 plant picks for low light bathrooms:

✨ Zz plant
✨ Chinese Evergreen
✨ Peace Lilly
✨ Cast Iron plant
✨ Rubber tree

📌Note: plants need light to live, so if your bathroom is windowless or extremely low light, consider adding grow lights 📌

DO PLANTS RELEASE OXYGEN AT NIGHT?

Plants need light to undergo photosynthesis, which is where they break down carbon dioxide and create oxygen in the air. All plants🪴 create oxygen during the daylight hours while they are undergoing photosynthesis.

Some plants take it a step further and undergo a unique nighttime photosynthesis called Crassulacean Acid Metabolism (CAM). These plants emit oxygen at night🌙

🌟CAM photosynthesis occurs in plants that are native to arid locations (like snake plants and aloe vera) and in tropical epiphytes (like orchids and bromeliads)🌟

Note💁‍♀️: although Monsteras in the wild spend part of their life as epiphytes climbing up trees and other plants around them, there is no evidence that they participate in CAM photosynthesis and release oxygen at night.

Peperomia Watermelon - Plant care

🪴Soil - use a well-draining potting mix (general purpose). Mix in some perlite or orchid bark to improve aeration. Use only pots with drainage. Peperomia rarely needs repotting as it likes to grow compact.

☀️Sunlight - keep in bright indirect light but out of strong direct light. Not suitable for low light.

💧Watering - let the soil dry out between waterings. Only use filtered water for watering. Try not to splash water on the foliage as Peperomia’s leaves are prone to leaf fungus.

💦Humidity - average indoor humidity is fine. You can use fine mist mister during summer months or when air becomes too dry.

😊Fertiliser - fertilise lightly twice a year (in spring and summer). Use diluted fertiliser containing 3-2-1 ratio of nitrogen(N)-phosphorus(P)-potassium(K).

‼️PRO tips: Overwatering is Peperomia’s worst enemy as it is prone to root rot; the plant is sensitive to light, strong afternoon light might create brown spots on the leaves; drooping leaves - thirsty plant; curling leaves - too much direct sunlight or thirsty plant; brown spots - environmental stress, pests or overwatering

🍃If you want to grow a bushier Peperomia place it in a spot with lots of bright indirect light and prune back from time to time🍃

🙌 Recommendations - thrives in bright spots of your home, keep away from drafts of cold or hot air; might not be suitable for beginners.

- One plant care tip I wish I knew sooner👇🍃

💫Cinnamon is a good anti-fungal💫

🌿I like to use Ceylon cinnamon on plant ‘wounds’. Simply dust cinnamon on the wound to prevent fungal infection and encourage healing at the same time.

(Note: when you trim away the roots affected by fungi, dust some cinnamon on top of the fresh cut to prevent spread of the disease)

🌿If your plants are suffering from a leaf fungus, cinnamon can fix that in some cases! Mix some cinnamon powder with warm water and let it sit overnight. Then strain into a spray bottle and spray on the affected leaves💁‍♀️

PLANT STYLING LAW YOU NEED TO KNOW 👇

✨The Rule of Proportion✨

Having all the plants and pots in a room the same height, colour and style. The room ends up looking dull and static😏

Luckily, this can easily be rectified. When buying plants, choose colours and shapes you do not have already🪴 Experiment with different pot styles🤩

A tall plant, for example, can add some height to a corner, while creating a jungle like look🌴 Trailing plants such as Pothos and Philodendron, work really well as a living element within a static display on a bookshelf or any tall cabinet.

Monstera care guide 101

READ the caption for plant care tips👇 CHECK pictures below for more 😊

🪴Soil - use a well-draining potting mix. Mix in perlite or orchid bark to improve aeration and promote better growth. Plant Monstera in a pot that contains drainage holes. Repot once every 2 years. Make sure to loosen the roots up

☀️Sunlight - thrives in bright to medium indirect light. Not suitable for low light. Strong direct sunlight can burn foliage

💧Watering - only use filtered water for watering. Keep soil consistently moist but not wet. Allow soil to dry 60-70% between waterings

💦Humidity - thrives in high humidity (can tolerate normal room humidity). Consider incorporating a humidifier or mist leaves gently every morning to boost humidity levels

😊Fertiliser - requires modest feeding during spring and summer. Use diluted fertiliser containing 3-2-1 ratio of nitrogen(N)-phosphorus(P)-potassium(K). Do not fertilise more than once a month and in winter

‼️PRO tips: Keep leaves dust- and pest-free by gently wiping them with a damp cloth. Curling leaves is a sign of either under-watering, low humidity or a root-bound plant. If leaves are not forming splits, it can be due to the lack of light, not enough water or not enough fertiliser.

🙌 Recommendations - great for any part of your house that has adequate light, humidity and out of drafts of cold or hot air; suitable for beginners.

READ the caption for plant care tips👇 SWIPE left on the picture above for more 😊

💫 Dracaena Marginata is native to Madagascar. A well cared for Dragon tree can reach 1 to 2 meters in height🤩

💫 Dracaena Marginata is useful for removing pollutants such as xylene, trichloroethane and formaldehyde🌏

💫 Dracaena Marginata is poisonous to cats 🐈 and dogs 🐶 , not poisonous to humans

💫 Several varieties exist: regular plain dracaena, Dracaena Marginata ‘Tricolour’, D. Marginata ‘Colorama’, D. Marginata ‘Bicolour’ (variegated plants require more light)

Plant CARE

🪴Soil - any well-draining soil. Avoid moisture retaining potting mixes, add perlite to improve aeration of heavy soil. Plant Dracaena in a pot that contains a drain hole. Do not repot more than once every 2-3 years (these trees grow slowly)

☀️Sunlight - bright indirect light is the best. Tolerates medium light. Not suitable for low light. Strong direct sunlight can burn foliage

💧Watering - it is easy to over-water the dragon tree as it is a drought-tolerant plant. Wait until the top half of the soil is dry before watering. Only use filtered water for watering. Brown tips on the leaves is a sign that the plant either receives too much water or that the water has too much salt/fluoride in it. Yellow leaves - the plant needs more water.

💦Humidity - normal to high humidity. Requires water spraying/humidifier when humidity is low

😊Fertiliser - plant is a slow grower, does not require heavy feeding. A controlled release fertiliser (3-2-1 ratio of nitrogen(N)-phosphorus(P)-potassium(K) once a year is enough

‼️Dracaena can’t stand cold and will only grow outside if temperature never drops below 16°C. The plant is sensitive to overwatering and prone to root rot. Do not overexpose it to strong direct light ‼️

🙌 Recommendations - great for bright office spaces and homes, visually stunning; suitable for beginners.
