🧱 Another Brick In The Wall 🧱

Yesterday I began work on an exciting tiled splashback for a super stylish kitchen in Fawkner.

I’ve done small tiling jobs in the past but this was definitely next level! (Pun intended 😆)

Cutting around window reveals and power points required a lot more thought and planning, as well as adding in brushed bronze tile trim to match the sink and handles but the results so far are 😙👌

Still have one wall to go but myself and the clients are stoked with the work so far!

🌳Fencing Off🌳

Had a job today in my old haunt Whittlesea! Task was to shore up this old timber fence to make it puppy proof for the adorable little cocker spaniel now in residence.

I was able to use outdoor timber screws to refix the majority of the palings back into the backing rails which worked a treat! Some areas of the rail beneath the trees had heavy rot, so in these instances I used longer screws and predrilled to prevent further splitting of the decayed wood.

Needless to say the pup will have a hard time finding her way through the fence! Though with the love and care she was receiving i doubt she’d want to be anywhere else 😊

😴 No Rest For The Wicked 😴

I’ve been back at my FT cabinetmaking job for the last 2wks while I transition to running SBR Handy as my solo gig.

That being said ive been completing jobs every weekend and weekdays after work 😮‍💨

The hustle is worth it knowing im building something for myself, building a reputation, and providing a well needed service 🫶

Tonight I’m preparing wall cleats for a client wanting a floating shelf alcove tomorrow. Pumped to see how this turns out! 💪

🛹Off The Wall 🛹

Last week i took a job in Craigieburn at Replay Music Academy to remove a non load bearing wall to open up a music classroom.

Demo is generally pretty easy! But demo when you’re trying to retain certain areas of the room neatly takes a bit more care and thought.

The plan was to remove most of the wall, but due to the AC plumbing running past one of the floor joists we opted to keep one of the studs in place rather than having to re plumb the AC unit.

Wall was removed, timber was cleaned up for reuse by the client (we love to recycle ♻️) and exposed studs were re sheeted where necessary.

A bit more tidy up (extrusion, plaster & paint) required but overall a success, and the client has had great feedback regarding the larger classroom area!

Just wanted to check in and say thank you for an overwhelming response over the last few days, I am blown away 🤯

⬜️ TIL Tiling is Bloody Hard ⬜️

Had my first official job under SBR Handywoman today and it was a baptism of FIRE

On todays menu-

Ripping out old broken tiles and clearing old adhesive
Scribing new tiled around a bath + cutting tap holes
Fitting tiles to adhesive
Grouting tiles and floor
Cutting and replacing silicone in the shower
Fixing wardrobe hanging
Repairing existing towel rails
Fitting new towel rails and TP holders
Tightening loose mixer taps

Honestly some of the toughest and most stressful 7hrs I’ve encountered for a while being a little out of my element but I got it done, clients were happy, and added more knowledge and skills under my belt.

Now for a nice cold bev (or 3) while I sit back and take a look at what I’ve achieved and what’s yet to come for SBR Handywoman 💪

🪜 It’s A Jungle Gym Out There 🪜

Got to put together 8yo Gabby’s dream play set today, though it’s definitely less dreamy doing the assembling 😆

This M**O was roughly 2.5mx3mx2.5m big and NOT LIGHT.

Thankfully I was able to tag in the muscle in my relationship to help me out as this was NOT a 1 person task.

Hopefully these kiddos enjoy their Ninja Warrior adventure gym well into thr new year 😁

🩶A Love Job🩶

My partner is currently getting his place renovated so he tagged me in to replace the benchtops, fit a new sink and cut in the old cooktop 🪚

Removal was a cinch. Disconnect the sink, cooktop and rip out the old benchtop. Which fortunately for me was only held together with loose benchtop joiners, some gap filler and a couple hopes and prayers 🥴

I scribed the benchtops to fit leaving 6-7mm gap for the builder to fit extra sheeting behind. Marked out the cooktop and new sink cutouts, chopped ‘em, checked ‘em then banged ‘em in!

Joins came up 👌 (definitely helps when you put ACTUAL glue in there 🤪), overhangs were perfect, now just need to wait on the sink/cooktop reconnection and tiling, then ill replace the existing handles with something more updated and voila! Will look like a new kitchen 🥰

👹 From Beast to Beauty 😇

One of the first things I did when I bought my townhouse was to renovate the bathroom.

There was one big vanity topped with the world’s most obnoxiously large sink that left next to no room on either side for anything. Particularly annoying when you’re trying to do your hair or makeup for an event!! (Definitely designed by a bloke amirite 😆)

So I tagged in my mate Max to do the design, then got stuck in to make it happen.

Removal was easy 👌 disconnect the sink, uninstall the old vanity, yeet it, then get elbow deep into the install 💪

I used a messmate timber coffee table I found on Marketplace as my benchtop, tiles, tap, basin and handles from Bunnings and decor from mum/Kmart/Savers and voíla! We now have a beautiful, modern, stylish AND functional bathroom vanity including inner drawers and shelving.
