Our Mission:

Tailoring Gardens to Client's Aesthetic Desires:
We understand that every client has unique aesthetic preferences regarding their gardens. We work closely with our clients to understand their desires and vision for outdoor spaces. Our expert team combines their years of landscape form and plant composition knowledge to create and enhance a garden that perfectly balances beauty, functionality, and ecological harmony. Delivering Luxury Organic Gardening Maintenance Services:
We are dedicated to providing reliable and exceptional organic gardening maintenance services to the metropolitan areas of Melbourne. By following organic horticultural best practices and principles, we ensure that your garden receives the highest quality care. Enhancing Ecosystem Services and Increasing Biodiversity:
We believe gardens play a vital role in supporting biodiversity and ecosystem health. By incorporating diverse plants, we attract birds, beneficial insects, and wildlife, creating a thriving ecosystem within your garden. This, in turn, reduces pest pressure on other plant species and promotes natural pest control. Additionally, we emphasise the importance of mulching, which fosters soil biology, increasing soil biodiversity and enhancing nutrient cycling, further strengthening the resilience of your plants. Mitigating the Heat Island Effect:
Urban areas often suffer from the heat island effect, increasing temperatures and discomfort. We address this issue by strategically increasing the canopy cover within gardens. Planting more trees and plants creates shade and cooling effects, reducing overall heat within the landscape and even reducing heating and cooling bills. The added benefit is that it improves the comfort of your outdoor spaces and contributes to a more sustainable and climate-resilient environment. Adding Value to Properties:
Well-maintained gardens and beautiful landscapes have been proven to enhance property values. Our expertise in horticultural property management allows us to optimise the aesthetics and functionality of your garden, resulting in a significant increase in the value of your property. We take pride in our ability to enhance the long-term value and appeal of your home through our tailored garden maintenance services. Low Impact Solutions:
Implementing environmentally conscious practices in the management of our properties and business operations. Our primary goal is to minimize the use of harmful chemicals and pollutants in managing our client’s properties. We proactively seek out eco-friendly products and develop sustainable systems that not only meet the needs of our clients but also contribute positively to the health of our local ecosystems.

At Artisan Horticulture, we believe the two most overlooked aspects of pest management are nutrition and biodiversity.

🌱 Healthy plants supported by balanced nutrition, beneficial bacteria, and fungi are far more resilient to pest and disease pressure—sometimes even effectively immune. We use tools such as sap pH and refractometer testing to better understand plant health and guide our recommendations.

🦋 Biodiversity is equally important. Gardens with year-round flowering plants provide food and habitat for beneficial insects that naturally help keep pest populations in balance. The Asteraceae family is particularly valuable for supporting these species.

When intervention is required, we choose the most appropriate treatment as part of a broader strategy. We also use industry-leading FlowZone equipment to ensure precise application and the best possible results.

What role do nutrition and biodiversity play in your garden? Let us know below, or reach out if you'd like help building a healthier, more resilient landscape.

Mulching is an essential practice in gardens and is what keeps them looking lush year-round 🌿

Beyond aesthetics, mulch plays a vital role in supporting healthy soil biology by regulating soil temperature, retaining moisture, feeding beneficial microbes, and improving soil structure through the colder months. Healthy soil biology = healthier, more resilient plants. 🌱

For our perennial gardens, we love using a blend of SureCrop and ¼” pine bark from to create a fungal-dominant environment that supports long-term plant and soil health. Annual gardens benefit from bacterial-dominant composts paired with pea straw, lucerne, straw or lawn clippings to keep soils active and productive through winter.

For acid-loving plants, we recommend pairing your mulch application with an acidic pH fertiliser like Kahoona from to help maintain optimal soil conditions and encourage strong healthy growth. We also like to incorporate Biochar to improve microbial activity, increase nutrient retention, and build long-term soil carbon.

To finish, apply a quality all-purpose fertiliser like Seamungus from Neutrog for its broad micronutrient profile, along with gypsum or another preferred calcium source to strengthen soil structure and support root development.

Healthy soil is the foundation of every thriving garden 🌿

If you’re unsure what mulch or soil amendments are right for your garden, send us a message or speak with your local horticultural supplier.

One of our secret weapons is foliar feeding. Optimal plant health and nutrient management often comes down to having a strong foliar feeding program in place.

Certain nutrients, like iron, zinc, manganese, and calcium, have been shown to be more effectively absorbed through the plant’s leaf surface, allowing for faster uptake compared to traditional soil applications. Amino acids and chelated nutrients can also have a significant positive effect on overall plant performance.

So what does this mean in practice?

Nutrient deficiencies can often be corrected very quickly through foliar applications. While soil treatments can sometimes take weeks to improve plant health, visible improvement from foliar feeding can often be seen within 24–48 hours, depending on the nutrient and plant conditions.

We use fortnightly applications of Triple 10 and Trio CMB from Nutri-Tech Solutions to deliver a broad range of nutrients directly through the leaf surface for fast uptake and improved plant performance.

That said, foliar feeding doesn’t replace the need to improve underlying soil conditions — soil health still needs to be properly managed and ameliorated for long-term plant performance.

The benefits?
• Improved pest resistance
• More vibrant, healthier plants
• Better flowering and fruiting

Healthy plants start with the right nutrition.

Achieving both flowers and structure comes down to understanding the plant in front of you.

Knowing the species, what wood it flowers on, and the timing of its flowering is what separates basic maintenance from true horticultural craftsmanship.

For Prunus lusitanica, flowering occurs in early spring on new growth. By carrying out a harder hedge in late autumn to early winter, followed by light, considered clips leading into the season, you encourage an abundance of fresh shoots—setting the stage for a generous floral display without compromising form.

The result is structure, softened by seasonal beauty.

If you’re looking to refine your garden with the same level of precision, get in touch.
