Melbourneโ€™s rail network contains some of the regionโ€™s most significant remnant native vegetation and provides important habitat for a range of threatened species and ecological communities. This webinar will explore the historical development and management of rail corridors to understand how they have become valuable biodiversity assets within an increasingly urbanised landscape.

The session will provide an overview of Metroโ€™s Biosite Management Program, highlighting the approaches used to protect and manage significant biodiversity values across the network and showcasing key achievements from the program over the past nine years.

The webinar will also explore Metroโ€™s efforts to improve landscape-scale biodiversity connectivity, including an industry-leading collaboration with The University of Melbourne to enhance and connect critically endangered Natural Temperate Grasslands along the Sunbury rail corridor.

From our friends at the Wheen Bee Foundation:

May 20 2026, marks the ninth annual World Bee Day, a global celebration of bees.
..the Wheen Bee Foundation is leading a national week of events and awareness activities, helping more Australians understand the essential role bees play in healthy ecosystems and food production.

It has been inspiring to see the array of events already taking place right across the country from webinars and farmers' market stalls to beekeeping workshops and community plantings.

While you're out celebrating, consider donating to the Wheen Bee Foundation.

The Foundationโ€™s work protecting bees and pollinators is only possible because people choose to support it. Every donation, big or small, helps fund research, education and practical initiatives that strengthen pollinators, improve ecosystem health and support the food systems that rely on them.

However you choose to celebrate, enjoy World Bee Day.

Fiona Chambers,

CEO Wheen Bee Foundation
