Contrast in Style:
The existing dwelling is traditional, with pitched roofs, timber elements, and a warm color palette, while the addition is modern, with a flat roof, minimalist forms, and likely a cooler, monochromatic palette.

Functional Continuity:
Both original home and our design prioritize outdoor living—the existing verandah and the proposed arched patio area serve similar purposes, though the latter is more open and modern.

Material Evolution:
The shift from painted brick/timber to smooth rendered surfaces and large glass openings reflects a move toward modern aesthetics and energy efficiency (e.g., better natural light and ventilation).

Heritage Balance:
The addition respects the heritage listing by focusing changes at the rear and using a distinct modern style, ensuring the original house's character remains intact.

Conclusion:
The existing dwelling is a classic heritage home with traditional features like a pitched roof, verandah, and symmetrical design. The proposed 2-storey addition introduces a modern, minimalist extension at the rear, with clean lines, large windows, and an arched patio area that echoes the original verandah's function. This design balances heritage preservation with contemporary living, adhering to council heritage guidelines by keeping the addition distinct and minimally invasive to the street-facing facade. Check out one of our projects that was completed during Covid. The project incorporated a new upper level garage & entry area , a complete re-design internally & the lower garage area transformed into 3 bedrooms & living space. It was a please to be involved in so many great renovation & extension projects.

Rather than simply demolish the 1980s extension, including the link and the pavilion, with the latter now used as an informal living, virtually retaining the same footprint as they inherited, only widening the former link to create a kitchen and butler's pantry. Large floor-to-ceiling glazed windows were installed to take advantage of the garden and create a dialogue with the original black-stained timber windows in the original part of the home. The rest of the home was com politely refurbished.

This project was shortlisted in the national interior design awards. Interior design by Austin Design.

RENOVATION / EXTENSION PROJECT.

The front living room was extended into the existing verandah structure to create space, the lower ceiling line within the verandah was converted into a large bulkhead area which created a great feature within the space. Integrated fireplace and joinery finishes off the space. Major transformation from original 1940's brown brick veneer 2 storey home.

TWO STOREY RENOVATION & EXTENSION.

The original 1960's home incorporated 4 bedrooms & a small kitchen, dining & living space.

The new design incorporated a new dining/family & oitdoor entertaining area. The new open plan kitchen/dining/living is north facing with views over the private open space, alfresco & entertaining space. Every room was renovated and incorporated inbuilt joinery. Our aim was to create a large new Hampton style home with all of the features.
