GARDEN // Our Place
We’ve been slowly reshaping our home - starting from the outside in. Pictured here is our recycled brick front path with grevillea bronze rambler.
The landscape has quietly become the anchor of our renovation, setting the tone before you even reach the front door and transforming our humble weatherboard cottage.
Architecture and planting shouldn’t feel separate. Don’t underestimate the power of the space around your existing home to reshape your day-to-day life.
There’s something very special about creating not just a home for your family, but habitat for native wildlife as well.
It’s a slow burn… but the layers are building.

The materials and finishes selected for J&M’s Place commencing construction shortly with .culture
Drawing on the existing qualities of the weatherboard home, the palette showcases warm terracotta, soft powder blue, muted greens and natural timbers. Tactile, honest materials designed to age beautifully.

CUSTOM MURAL
It’s been really enjoyable working on something a little different lately!
This is a custom mural I’ve recently completed at the University of Newcastle. It’s incredible how this pop of colour and form can completely transform an ordinary commercial glass sliding door into a moment of simple joy.

COMPLETED // A&S’s Place
The kitchen / dining forms the central heart of A&S’s Place, combining the functionality of the two spaces for a more intimate interaction between the acts of cooking, entertaining & eating, based on how our clients saw themselves using the renovated space.
This layout is compact, yet with the addition of the large bifold door the room feels open and spacious.

COMPLETED // A&S’s Place
As we move into 2023, with a steady, focused and gentle pace, we will be sharing images of details and spaces from some of our favourite completed projects. Meanwhile, we are working away on concepts and documentation for other exciting new projects, that we hope to share in time.
Pictured here is the rain chain detail from A&S’s Place. The movement of water through our designs is always a key consideration.
Originating in Japan, rain chains (known as Kusari-doi) have been used for hundreds of years to direct and collect water from the roof of buildings.
Our clients green thumb is also on show here, with the abundant bush tucker ‘warrigal greens’ weaving between the timber detailing.

In keeping with the before & after theme of late we wanted to take a step back to this little beauty of a project.
At the core of our design philosophy is the desire to improve our clients day to day life. More often than not this is achieved by creating a better connection between the interior living spaces & yard, which A&S’s place is a perfect example of.
We enjoy working on projects of varying scales & budgets and believe that sometimes the smallest interventions can make the biggest impact.
Working to a modest budget, this project took the time & devotion of our clients to bring it to life alongside
