Have you ever had a cucamelon?

It loves humidity, grows on a vine, looks like a tiny watermelon and tastes like a cucumber. What’s more it packed with enough nutrients to make it a superfood!

Our single vine is a prolific producer so we’ve been eating cucamelons every which way. They’re great as a snack, in salads and we’ve just pickled some. Think cornichons. Yum!

PSA: On Friday night the crown fell off my tooth (damn you chocolate coated honeycomb). Not wanting to spend a million dollars on an emergency dentist and because it wasn’t really sore I popped into the chemist to see if there was some sort of gel that would protect my until tooth I saw my dentist on Monday. I was thinking of bonjela for big people so imagine my surprise when I was offered a product to reattach my crown. Just in case I’m not the only one who had no idea such thing existed, I took a photo of the packet. You’re welcome 😝 Oh and the best bit?! It’s made here in Australia and it works!

The year I turned 50 I stopped colouring my hair. In the time since then I’ve saved over $6000 and reclaimed/ diverted 65 hours of time. I look forward to my brief sessions at the hairdresser, nothing beats a head massage and fresh fuss-free ‘do!

I was recently asked what live more with less meant to me. Not as a business but the ethos by which I live my life. Sure, it’s about discarding actions or activities that don’t serve me but what does that leave me doing each day? Today was an ordinary Tuesday and here’s how I spent it (in words and pictures):

* Fed the chickens their oats and watched the sunrise
* Drank in the view while drinking coffee
* Did some training with Milo puppy
* Had a team meeting
* Cleaned a chicken coop
* Bathed a chicken
* Discussed potential events our local community and business association could run and what grants we could apply for to fund them
* Held a tape measure while Will double-checked his measurements (this could be my full time job)
* Updated Facebook (finally!)All of these things were satisfying and important to me. Cleaning a chicken coop isn’t one of my favourite activities but completing it is. Now I’m going to read my book for a while before watching a movie with my 9yr old neighbour.

How did you spend your day?

Footpath Find!
Growing your own veggies can be expensive especially if your set up has to be socials worthy and you’re purchasing seedlings.
Yet, it doesn’t have to be if you ignore the hype and use what you have.
I found this pot while walking the dogs. I brought it home and gave it a good scrub. I then added a few handfuls of perlite before filling it with soil from the chook pen mixed with worm casings. I dug up a tomato seedling grown from a tomato I grew and then buried (no fancy seed saving here). I added a wire support I found in the shed when we first moved in. Lastly, I watered the seedling in with liquid seaweed and topped the pot with sugarcane mulch.
My rough calculation is the whole thing cost me about $2.50 for the perlite, seaweed and mulch.
The tomato seedling is a bush variety that only grows to about 50cm but produces full sized romas. I added the frame to help it support the weight of the fruit. This seedling is third generation so hopefully it will prove to be fairly pest resistant and happy in the humidity.

Rainy day ‘dos. Tea and Coffee insist on standing in the rain turning their pom poms into spikey messes, dripping water into their eyes. I’m pretty sure it’s a ploy to get me to blow dry them. They love a spa day!

Another Queensland day. Another python skin.

I found this wrapped around the verandah post this morning. No sign of its owner. Having lost chicks to pythons the past two years we’re putting this one on notice. Stalk the chicks and we’ll stalk you. Stick to rodents and we can all live together happy in our lanes!
