FROM THE FIELD TO THE HOME
So close. 💜⚓️

Of course we wanted the WIN!

But making it all the way to the GRAND FINAL is an ACHIEVEMENT to CELEBRATE.

And strangely enough, it made me think about design. 🏡

The competitiveness we're in means everything has to be perfect to succeed.

• A renovation doesn’t need every expensive upgrade.
• A home doesn’t need every current trend. • And my favourite is keeping the original structure and modifying the design along the way.

Creating something that works, lasts, and you’re proud of when you get there.

Another season. Another project. Another tactic. Another perspective. Another design. We pick up along the way.

Where do you start when there are TOO many choices?

Pinterest. Instagram. Display homes. Showrooms. Builders. Designers. Suppliers. Colours. Benchtops. Appliances. Flooring… 😵‍💫

Renovating can be exciting—until you’re suddenly faced with hundreds of decisions.

One thing I’ve learned over the years is that more choice doesn’t necessarily make choosing easier.

My simple approach?

Narrow it down to three.
Then two.
Then choose. ✔️

Before you start selecting the beautiful things, start with the practical questions:

Will it fit? 📐
Measure first — not after you’ve fallen in love with it.

Where do I start? 🪧
Start with how you actually live, what the space needs to do, and what you can realistically spend.

Can I DIY? 🔨
Absolutely — sometimes. But knowing where professional advice will save you time, mistakes, and money can make a huge difference.

What’s my real budget? 💰
Don’t spend every dollar on the wish list. Leave room for the things you didn’t expect.

And something I’ve always found interesting: even people who work in design, architecture, and building can struggle to make decisions about their own homes. Sometimes we’re too close to our own project — a little like the chef who doesn’t want to cook at home or the hairdresser who would rather have someone else do their hair. 😆

That’s where another experienced set of eyes can be incredibly valuable.

Today’s three concepts show how the same basic need — a great kitchen — can be approached at very different investment levels.

What turns a house into a HOME?

Beautiful design certainly plays a part — but ultimately, it’s about how people live within the space.

Picture a warm, rustic kitchen with polished concrete floors, high ceilings and pendant lights casting a soft glow over a generous stainless-steel benchtop.

A serious six-burner cooker and stainless-steel rangehood for the person who genuinely loves to cook. A versatile double sink with an integrated sliding cutting board, pull-out tap and concealed waste system — because the little practical details matter just as much as the beautiful ones.

Extra-wide drawers provide generous storage, while warm wall tones soften the industrial finishes and bring everything together.

And at the heart of it all — the island bench. 💙

Not simply somewhere to prepare dinner, but a place designed to become part breakfast bar, part dining table and very often the centre of the home.

Morning coffee before everyone starts their day. ☕
A glass of w**e while dinner is cooking. 🍷
Family and friends gathering around the island, talking long after the plates have been cleared.

The favourite chair everyone somehow claims as their own.🫵😆

The celebrations. The quiet evenings. The everyday conversations that don't seem important at the time — until one day, they're the memories we treasure most.
