🌿 Landscape Tip of the Week: Design a Garden for Kids & Pets
A beautiful garden doesn’t have to be a look-but-don’t-touch space. When you have kids, dogs and cats, the best gardens are designed to be safe, durable and enjoyable for everyone.
🐾 Choose pet-friendly plants — avoid plants that can be toxic if chewed or eaten, particularly around curious puppies, dogs and cats.
👣 Create durable play zones — lawn, soft landscaping and open areas give kids and pets somewhere to run without destroying your garden beds.
🌱 Keep delicate plants protected — use raised garden beds, borders or strategically placed planting to keep plants away from high-traffic areas.
💧 Think about water and drainage — avoid stagnant water and make sure irrigation doesn’t create muddy areas where kids and pets play.
🌳 Add shade — trees and shaded areas make the garden much more comfortable during Perth’s hot summers.
🏡 Design for real life — leave clear pathways, choose hard-wearing surfaces and accept that a family garden is meant to be used, not just admired.
The best family garden is one that works for the whole family — muddy paws, little feet and all. 🌿🐶🐱👧
