Mossy Earth Garden Care

Mossy Earth Garden Care Garden maintenance and replenishment, edible garden installation and permaculture design G'day there!

Introducing Mossy Earth Garden Care - Where Nature Nurtures and Communities Thrive! I'm Jay, and at Mossy Earth Garden Care, I focus on garden maintenance, edible garden installation, and permaculture design with an emphasis on native plants. Growing up on the South Coast, my love for nature began at a young age. In 2020, after years of unsatisfying jobs, an eye opening Horticulture Traineeship on

Horse Island ignited a passion for Australian native plants and sustainability. The pandemic revealed the power of home gardens in supporting families and communities. That's when I discovered Permaculture, inspiring me to live a more resourceful life. Now, I blend native plants, thriving edible gardens, and permaculture principles to create resilient garden spaces. Let Mossy Earth Garden Care nurture nature and create a greener, more resilient future together.

I’m not sure about you, but we cleaned up at the local council chuckouts this year!

We scored a bunch of goodies for the garden, we even found the bulk of the materials for this wicking bed

I think this cost maybe $70 or so all up

It’s pretty much a raised garden bed with a reservoir at the bottom, which plants use to wick up water as required (through capillary action). This means that they are a lot more water efficient

A little project we’ve been working on:

Our initial couple of garden beds expanded into 5 beds, each roughly 10 meters long. These beds are complete with garden borders on either side, featuring flowering annuals to attract pollinators, which can significantly increase yield (up to x3).

Additionally, they help in attracting predatory insects that naturally control pests, such as aphids. Emphasizing diversity has been crucial for our project's success.

This poor old veggie patch had dry and hydrophobic (water-repelling) soil and was well overdue for replenishment.

We have used the no-dig lasagne method, which is a cheap and easy way for us to rebuild soil by reusing organic matter that may be headed for the landfill. Kept moist, this should break down over time and act as a slow-release fertilizer, reducing the need for expensive and sometimes synthetic fertilizers.
