This house design accounted for an approved 9m-tall upslope neighbour, which caused overshadowing, privacy issues and limited access to winter sun. To maximize sunlight and cross ventilation, we used a long, linear floor plan and positioned the house higher on the site. For privacy from the neighbour’s south-facing deck while optimizing winter sun, we incorporated high-level north glazing to bring light in from above while reducing a direct line of sight.

Now complete project in Port Macquarie. A very narrow site: 10m wide by 50m long. The building form has been broken in the middle with a double height space over the dining area to allow winter sun right through to the living areas at the back (South end) of the house. The living areas have connection to the Canals to the south while maintaining good daylighting and winter sun. The Long east west walls step in and out to help capture breezes from the north and south.

Rivver House. Linear floor plan – angled slightly across the site to maximise north orientation, river views and access to north easterly breezes. Being one of the lowest lying lots in Dunbogan the house was required to have a habitable floor level 3m above ground.

A recent concept for a house alterations and addition on a large residential lot in Port Macquarie. The proposal looks at opening up the living areas to a covered deck and swimming pool. The living spaces now flow directly to north and south facing private outdoor spaces. The extension of the existing gable roof lends itself to a symmetrical façade. The exposed beam detail has been borrowed from the existing dwelling to help maintain the character of the existing house.
