Bushfire garden design
Reducing the impact from Bush Fires with a little planning, right choose of plants such as density, oil, water content and dead wood (Fuel). Reducing flammable fuel in your regular garden maintenance and household maintenance (gutters etc) will assist in the bushfire preparation.
I have attached part of my list of fire-resistant, fire-retardant plants to assist with the planning and design of gardens. fire resistant (survival after the fire), fire retardant (slower to ignite, reduce the fire passage. Msg for full list
Note I found through experiments the succulents tend to melt rather than burn thus not producing additional flames.
Also found a great document coving most areas of all gardens around Aust. written by the CFA Victoria Landscaping for bushfires PDF.

I thought I’d share this interesting 1hr story about some of our forests eco systems and having the balance of plants, bacteria, fungi, insects, animals and how they work together. Just by creating some mini forests as a start can assist building the habitats. This can be as simple as in your backyard or on acreage.
This does not mean just planting Eucalyptus but all different native species for layering, host plants and diverse habitats providing protecting from the elements or predators.
