The Hai Lang Residence by Birdblack Design is an interior built on curves, vaulted ceilings that arch over the living spaces, corridor walls that bend rather than turn, joinery that follows the geometry of the rooms it occupies. In a home this committed to form, the floor has to work hard without drawing attention to itself. Woodcut‘s Sandwashed from the Premium Collection does exactly that. Its pale, sand-toned European Oak runs in wide boards through every room, the open grain and washed surface giving the timber a raw, almost coastal quality that sits in quiet agreement with the raw plaster walls and linen curtains pooling beside it. Where the architecture is sculptural and the palette is stripped back to almost nothing, Sandwashed provides the warmth underfoot that keeps the interior from reading as cold.

APC Studio designed the LOLA Townhouses around the relationship between inside and outside,an open living space with light moving through the interior at every hour in a way that changes the room without rearranging it. Woodcut‘s Hazel from the Premium Collection runs through that interior as the material that makes the transition legible. Its warm, mid-toned European Oak grain sits equally well in the sun-flooded living room and the more contained kitchen, where curved timber joinery and veined stone work at a closer, more intimate scale.

Herringbone parquetry has held its place in interior design for centuries, from grand European estates to contemporary Australian homes. The reason is structural as much as aesthetic. Each plank arranged end-to-side, forming a continuous zigzag that gives any floor plate direction, depth, and a level of craftsmanship that registers before anything else in the room.

Woodcut‘s herringbone range is available across four collections, with samples available for delivery

The herringbone pattern laid in Woodcut‘s White Lacquered from the Premium Collection is the first thing the eye finds at the Elusive Blue project by Hemma Interiors. Across the open living and kitchen floor plate, the geometry of the lay gives the pale, lacquered European Oak boards a directional energy that draws the room toward the garden beyond the sliding glazed wall. It reflects the skylight above and the garden beyond in equal measure.

Last Thursday Autumn Afterhours at the Waterloo Design Centre brought together Sydney’s architecture and design community for an evening celebrating materiality, craftsmanship and connection.

Held at 197 Young Street, Waterloo, guests explored seven curated showrooms showcasing stone, timber, textiles, joinery and surface design across a collaborative experience that celebrated contemporary interiors and Australian design culture.

Reflecting material origins the evening featured regional culinary delights including Italian tiramisu, Spanish paella, French crêpes and tandoori tofu and more, creating a warm and immersive hospitality experience throughout the space.

Featuring special guests Cody from The Local Project and Taylah from Grand Designs Australia, the event invited guests to connect with industry peers, engage with leading brands and experience tactile displays in a thoughtfully curated setting.

Woodcut's Snow from the Essence Collection brings the calm of Nordic interiors to the Windsor Residence by Senka Home. Soft, bright and timeless in the way that only a timber this pale and this well-resolved can be, Snow runs through every room of the home in wide European Oak boards that shift in quality as the spaces change around them. It carries that lineage in its tone, its grain and its restraint puts you in a still morning nowhere to be.

The living room at the Smithfield Residence by Bone Made is a study in tonal precision: olive, taupe, warm brown and the kind of grey that takes time to identify. Woodcut‘s London Grey from the Grande Ville Collection runs across the full floor plane in wide European Oak boards, and it is only when you look closely that you understand how much work it is doing. Next to the velvet chairs, it reads warm. Beside the freestanding black fireplace and its plaster surround, it pulls cooler and more graphic. Under the skylight, it catches the midday light and shows its grain in full. It is a timber that changes with the room rather than imposing on it.

Herringbone flooring is what brings this space to life. At Neutral Bay House Two by Danielle Victoria Design Studio, the entry hall demanded a floor with its own architectural geometry, Woodcut’s White Smoked from the Premium Collection delivers this beneath double brass chandeliers, arched openings and a formal staircase. Its pale, smoke-treated European Oak grain is laid in tight herringbone across both the entry and kitchen, the pattern drawing the eye through the home‘s sequence of rooms while the tone subtly brings light to the space.

Walk into the living nook at the Red Hill project by Design by Golden and the architecture closes in around you, dark ceiling, corten column, green plaster banquette, a single skylight cutting through the mass above. Woodcut‘s Chocolate from the French Collection is less a flooring specification and more a material inevitability, its deep, wide-boarded European Oak grain belonging to this landscape the way the timber wall cladding and fur throws do.
