LYNBURN
Lynburn was built in 1895 by the Berry Estate for retired Estate Manager Henry Morton. For many years we have all known it as the white house at the bottom of Morton's Hill in Bomaderry. However, when it was built, the house would have been finished in a quite different colour scheme to the white one that we all know. In the 1890's the colour scheme would have been much darker, with the walls being a dark beige, and the woodwork in a contrasting much darker brown colour scheme. There are remnants of the brown contrast paint to the sides and rear of the house.

Henry Morton did not get to live in the home that was being built for him, as he died before it was completed. However, his wife and children lived there, as his widow was allowed to stay there for the remainder of her life. When she passed, her youngest son purchased the property.
Her son Mark Fairles Morton lived there for a number of years, before he built 'Illowra' on the opposite side of the road.

Howard Joseland, a renowned Sydney architect, designed both houses.
