Hidden behind a traditional Federation frontage, this striking rear addition utilises Krause Emperor Bricks in Ghost to ground the new exterior. The natural warmth of the elongated clay brick creates a strong, highly tactile foundation that perfectly bridges the old and the new.

Each Krause Brick used at Wardle's stunning Burnt Earth Beach House in Anglesea is truly unique, torn by hand prior to cutting to expose a raw, rough-hewn texture.

Plus, with a zero-waste manufacturing process where any excess is recycled, this home is as easy on the planet as it is on the eyes. The raw material is glazed and fired just once, creating intricate, varied reactions in the finish.

We worked closely with the team at SJB Architects to develop custom R300mm curved bricks which combine with our Emperor and Empress profiles to bring this timeless, rhythmic design to life.

When designing this beautiful home in Wheelers Hill, Matyas Architects selected Krause Emperor Bricks in Ghost to ground the modern residence within its suburban context, while elevating the facade with rich, handcrafted character.

"Face brick is a predominant material used in the neighbourhood, so that informed our decision to select it. We wanted to do something that wasn't competing with the buildings but related to the existing streetscape. And we wanted a handcrafted feel, so that's where the Krause Emperor bricks come into their own. The bricks achieved the handmade qualities we were looking for, with their subtle variation in finishes and colour."
