Octopus Vessel|The Grain Collection
As a part of our experiments, the making of this vessel has been very interesting. We were curious about how the clay will form its own shape organically during the firing process. As a known fact, clay tends to melt down slightly in the kiln when it reaches 1260 degree before it become “stoneware”. We scrolled the slab into strips and rolled it into a cylinder, bend the strips gently into an octopus-like shape, and let it bend down more during the firing process. This vessel is like a living creature which has been constantly changing its form.
