✨ Lawn & Garden Tips ✨

Welcome to May, the last month of autumn

Camden Mowing loves creating beautiful spaces.

We're also passionate about mowing and gardening and will share tips on the 1st of every month to help you in the lawn and garden.

For your lawn;

💧April was a very dry and sunny month. We haven’t had any notable rain for over 4 weeks now. Even though your lawn needs less water in the cooler months if we don’t get good regular rain your lawn will still want some water from time to time. We’ve been lucky we have been piggybacking off lots of rainfall in Jan, Feb and Mar.
🌿You may start noticing w**ds in your lawn now. There are sprays you can apply either before w**ds arrive or after to treat these otherwise your easiest but not ideal option is to mow them back in or else use the Elle Woods technique and bend and snap them out manually.
🍂Marge, the leaves are here!! Leaves are beginning to drop now. As nice as leaves in nature are, leaves on your lawn are like a wet blanket and will set your lawn back if not picked up, chinese elm leaves are the worst, they just don’t want to move!
🎤 Last and final call for organic fertiliser application for your lawn for the season to help hold it’s colour for the winter

In the garden;

💧Like your lawn, we haven’t had decent rain for a while now, don’t forget your plants still need some water during the cooler months
🌹 Have a look for nice flowers in your garden. I'm sure mum would love something from your own garden for Mother's Day
🍃 Autumn is a beautiful time with the changing colours of the trees. Pause and take in the beauty of the falling colourful leaves.
🍁In the cooler months the focus moves away from mowing and into the gardens. The cooler months are your garden preparation months for the warmer months.
🍆If you’re a veggie grower, the change of season is a good time to plant your next lot of winter edibles in your garden.
💪Similar to the lawn, a final feed up of organics for your garden plants will keep their nutrients topped up during winter.

From the hospital bed;

🚑 I prefer to make things about others but on a personal level for a moment, after developing momentum in the lawns and gardens that we manage over the last 2 months, I’ve had to do some much needed maintenance on my body yesterday in order to continue creating beautiful spaces for our valued clients moving forward. I want to say thank you to the Camden Mowing team for looking after all the properties that we manage while I am parked up recovering. I look forward to getting back out there on the tools before spring and taking care of our clients 🌞🤜

✨Lawn & Garden Tips ✨

Welcome to April, the second month of Autumn

Camden Mowing loves creating beautiful spaces.
We're also passionate about mowing and gardening and will share tips on the 1st of every month to help you in the lawn and garden.

For your lawn;
💪 You haven't had to do a lot lately other than mow, mow, mow to look like a world be**er in the lawn condition stakes. We've had such good conditions the last few months. With good and timely mowing, lawns are looking green and lush for this time of the year.
⚖️ Autumn can definitely give you a taste of warm and cold seasons. We saw a 33 degree max day in March and a 17 degree day with snow falling within 3 hour drive of our area. Comparing to the last 3 years, we've had 50% of the total yearly rainfall in the first 3 months! Add in the heat and humidity, no wonder everything has been growing like crazy lately.
🤫 The grass should slow up shortly though, choose your mowing height carefully, don't go cutting it too short especially if your lawn sees less sun and more shade in the cooler months.
🥳 Surprisingly I haven't seen that much damage to lawns from grubs this year despite the perfect conditions for them, perhaps they all got flooded out or everybody is treating for them.
🐐Fuel saving tip in the lawn mowing space that comes to mind given how fast the grass has been growing and the cost of fuel at the moment - perhaps call in the goats!

In the garden;
🌳 Everything is growing like they are on supplements lately and with the fuel price situation one way to reduce your fuel spend in the garden maintenance stakes especially if you have large areas to maintain is to apply foliar growth retardants to your plants. These will slow down the growth of your plants reducing the need for trimming. Alternatively, check out your local power equipment store and see their ever improving electric range of equipment.
🧐 Like your lawn, carefully consider how you trim your hedges now. Things will/should (fingers crossed) start to slow down soon and if you do any heavy cutbacks you could be looking at it this way for a while. If things have crept out on you, you may opt for a light trim now and a heavy cutback at the start of spring.
🪻Plant something purple. It’s a beautiful colour and there so many nice purple plants all year round — lavender, jacaranda, iris, hydrangea, society garlic, agapanthus, petunias, wisteria and at the moment salvias and tibouchinas are beautiful.
🌞 April is not only a nice name but a great month of the year for planting. The soil is still warm, plants can take before things get too cool, the heat of the summer is gone and you don't have to keep as much water up to things to get them started. For some nice added winter colour get planting now.
🪏Check you’ve got all your winter gardening artillery in supply ready to go. Secateurs, branch pruners/loppers, gloves, rakes, blower, vacuum, wheelbarrow, shovel, mattock, chainsaw and winter yard workwear to name a few depending on your yard requirements.
🐣 Prepare your garden for the kids for the annual Easter egg hunt.
🌱 Lastly, Rosemary is great in cooking and also a symbol of remembrance for Anzac Day this month if you have some in your garden.

I hope the Easter Bunny is very generous to you all 🐰

✨Lawn & Garden Tips ✨

Welcome to March, the first month of autumn

Camden Mowing loves creating beautiful spaces.
We're also passionate about mowing and gardening and will share tips on the 1st of every month to help you in the lawn and garden.

For your lawn;
🪻 What a tale of 2 halves the summer season has been. Dec/1st half of Jan hot and dry, 2nd half Jan/Feb humid and wet. Feb 25 - 8 days of 80% and above relatively humidity at 9am, Feb 26 - 14 days of 80% and above at 9am. Half of the days in Feb it was muggy at 9am! With heat, humidity and rain all the ingredients have been there for lawns, hedges, w**ds, everything to grow.
🚿 Although your lawn is probably nice and green at the moment from all the rain, the soil can be leached of goodness. It's still a good idea to give some trace element fertiliser to your lawn even if it's green to feed it longer term into the cooler months to help hold it's colour - i like dynamic lifter myself.
🌹 I'd normally tell you to keep your mowing height up now and don't go cutting the lawn too short to allow it to thicken up a bit before the cooler weather arrives and the growth rate begins to slow but who knows with the weather.
🐞I have seen some lawns not looking the way they should and this has been due to grubs. They are at their maturity and with all these moist conditions, they are loving life right now. If you lawn looks discoloured or roots looks thin/unsettled and had no unusual heavy foot traffic, a good dose of grub killer prior to some rain will stop your lawn further deteriorating.

In the garden;
🎅 Hedges have been growing like crazy. With all the ingredients of heat, humidity and rain keep on top of your hedges so they don't creep out over your garden edges, driveways, verandahs, they can be sneaky and really get away on you quickly if your not looking.
🐀If only David Copperfield could make the w**ds disappear at the moment. It's always good to have your garden areas mulched, if not for aesthetics then to slow the w**ds from appearing.
🌹The mower in due course will be able to do an interchange and it'll be time to get out the winter artillery like rake, blower, secateurs and gloves.
🌹Not exactly a garden tip.. Let the change of season be a metaphor for a renewed perspective in your life. Summer is hot, the days are long and the new year is often busy. Autumn is about the temperature cooling down, days getting shorter and the nights getting longer. Like the environment, try and cool down and slow down in your life. Take time and reflect in your garden and enjoy what the change of season gives you in your own garden or any nice garden that you see.

Welcome to February, the last month of summer 🌞

Camden Mowing loves creating beautiful spaces.
We're also passionate about mowing and gardening and will share tips on the 1st of every month to help you in the lawn and garden.

Here’s the tips for this month…

For your lawn;
🔥Your probably asking yourself why do I have brown patches in my lawn?
Your lawn got sunburnt!...
October, November and December we had very low rainfall, we had 7 days in a row of mid to high 30's the week leading up to Xmas, then the brutal 3 days in a row of above 40 degrees in January. The lack of rainfall, the number of hot days in a row and if you didn't water your lawn during these crucial hot days - this is most likely why your lawn has brown patches at the moment. The dumping of rain we had in mid Jan greened the lawns up but the damage had already been done. Lawns have had a rough ride this summer this year so far. Grubs are also at their maturity at this time of year as well, if you have been watering your lawn a lot and your lawn has brown patches or not looking like you think it should
🤒You would know that no amount of sunscreen or aloe vera gel after you've been sunburnt will stop your skin from being red
The same goes for your lawn and plants - no amount of water after a run of hot days can undo the burn of your lawn or plant foliage
This is why it's important to feed up your lawn before it gets to it's stressful time of the year
🌱 We are into the last month of summer now. The days are starting to get shorter. You have 3 more good months or warm weather for growth to get your lawn into good shape before the winter. If your looking to lay turf consider doing that in the next little while so it has plenty of time to take root and settle in before the cooler weather sets in.

In the garden;
💪Garden maintenance has been easier this warm season with the reduced rainfall. Be mindful of the weather if it continues to be hot and dry following any summer pruning and cutting
👀Keep a close eye on all your plants, they have had a tough run the past few months. Your plants would really appreciate some seasol and/or other added organic goodies you give them at the moment
🥵 If some of your plants have burnt leaves, they may look ugly but can protect the rest of the plant from further burning if you leave them there till the hot days pass
🌴Trees, hedges and plants will throw a symptom at you when they are under stress. Trees will drop leaves for example, plants become more susceptible to pests or get a fungus. Visit your local garden shop for advice to discuss any issues your seeing in your lawn or garden
🍂If you didn't mulch through winter or your mulch wants topping up, this will help retain any water your garden receives

❤️Invest time and care into your lawn and garden and your yard will reward you for it. Cherish your lawn and garden like you cherish your personal relationships

I’d like to say thank you to the Macarthur Lions Club for organising the Australia Day street parade in Camden

✨ Lawn & Garden Tips ✨

Welcome to January, the 2nd month of Summer 🌞

I hope 2026 is a great year for you all.
Camden Mowing loves creating beautiful spaces.
We're also passionate about mowing and gardening and will share tips on the 1st of every month to help you in the lawn and garden.

For your lawn;
🪻 Similar to last year, water is the key at the moment through January unless we get some quality rainfall. Don’t mow your lawn too short or too often unless your keeping the water up to it.
🚿 If you haven't fertilised your lawn this season it's a great time to get some into the ground now as your lawn could currently be under the stress of the summer sun and no rainfall.
🌷 If you're away on holidays configure your irrigation as required or have a friend, neighbour or family member water your lawn for you.
🌼 Deeper watering less often is better than superficial regular watering as it gets down to the roots where the water is needed.

In the garden;
🪻 If you're away on holidays configure your irrigation as required or have a friend, neighbour or family member water your lawn for you.
🎅Be selective with your trimming now in the hot weather. Better to leave some coverage on things so plants can protect themselves.
🎄 Be selective with your plantings. Anything you plant now you're going to need to keep the water up to it.
🌹Seasol is great for giving your plants that extra boost to handle the hot conditions. Put it both on the foliage and/or at the base of the plant.
🪴 Enjoy a cool drink in a shady spot in your own garden, someone else’s garden or in a public area.
🔥If you live in a rural area or have a lot of trees near your house, tidy up any excess bark, sticks or leaves to prevent a fire hazard

✨ Lawn & Garden Tips ✨

Welcome to December, the 1st month of summer 🌞

Camden Mowing loves creating beautiful spaces.
We're also passionate about mowing and gardening and will share tips on the 1st of every month to help you in the lawn and garden.

This month I thought I’d share with you a marketing flyer put together a few years ago. This a high level guide of things you can do in the lawn and garden.

Here’s the tips for this month…

For your lawn;
💧 It was a dry November after an even drier October. Water is the most important thing for your lawn now summer has arrived.
🌳 If you’ve fed your lawn and been giving some water during spring your lawn should be nice and green by now, if you haven't, your lawn will love a boost right now
🚶 Keep your mowing heights up in these drier conditions and don't mow too regularly unless its getting watered and growing, less is more

In the garden;
🌼 Spring has passed now and so have some of the spring flowers, time to trim and prune some plants. With the end of spring some of your summer plants are shooting now like agapanthus.
🌹 Enjoy this transition time between 2 growing seasons, gardening and plants are so interesting. Take mental stock of what plants flower when throughout the year and think about your garden space and how you can have constant flowering in your home all year round with good planning
🐝 With lots of flowers comes lots of bees and wasps. Be careful in the garden. My tip is to use a rake or blower and rustle areas you havent been in recently to prevent an unwanted interaction.
🌳 Before the hot weather arrives and before the Xmas decorations go up touch up all your hedges if required so both you and your plants can have a rest from hedging during the hot festive season.
🍂 If you haven’t mulched already now is a good time especially because it’s hot and dry. With all the wind we have had lately you can use the leaves on the ground as mulch, 2 birds 1 stone no?

🤶 I hope everyone has a Merry Christmas

✨ Lawn & Garden Tips ✨

Welcome to November, the 3rd month of Spring ☀️

Camden Mowing loves creating beautiful spaces.
We're also passionate about mowing and gardening and will share tips on the 1st of every month to help you in the lawn and garden.

For your lawn;
💧October was a very hot and dry month. If it weren't for the 10mm of rain on Thursday the monthly total was only 4mm. Be ready to water your lawn as summer approaches next month. Check your hoses, sprinklers, rain water tanks or irrigation are good to go. Get your lawn into good shape now to handle the summer conditions.
💦 Deeper watering, less often, gets down to the roots and is better than frequent superficial watering.
🚶‍♂️Ensure your mowing height and schedule matches the water your lawn receives. This is an important aspect of lawn maintenance. If it's dry and your not watering don't be cutting your lawn too short, if it's getting regular water then cut to the appropriate height that reflects it's growth and how often your mowing
🌱 Your lawn should be greening up nicely if you fertilised in September or October otherwise it’s still a great time to put some out if you haven't already
🎤 Final call for top dressing. You can do this anytime really but no is a good time

In the garden;
🌼 Get your hedges trimmed, in shape and full to allow new growth to form before summer gets here so it can better protect itself if we have a hot and dry one. Best for yourself and your hedges to be doing as little hedging in summer as possible. 🥵 Hedges got an early boost this year coming out of winter when we had those 2 large downpours of rain
🌹 For the rose gardeners, roses are out in full bloom since the winter prune backs and look fabulous. Star jasmine looks and smells great at the moment too
💜It feels like the jacarandas have popped that little bit earlier this year after record October temperatures, although it's probably just time flying for us all.
🌈 After the stormy and windy weather we've been cleaning up leaves everywhere we go lately. A good reminder to get rid of any unwanted leaves in your gutters and any hiding spots ahead of summer to prevent any fires around your home

💡 I hope the things put into our monthly tips gives you timely ideas and gets you thinking about your lawn and garden space so it is satisfying for you ☺️

✨ Lawn & Garden Tips ✨

Welcome to October, the 2nd month of Spring ☀️

Camden Mowing loves creating beautiful spaces.
We're also passionate about mowing and gardening and will share tips on the 1st of every month to help you in the lawn and garden.

For your lawn;
💧 It was a tale it 2 halves in September - 90mm of rain in the first half of the month and 2mm of rain in the 2nd half of the month. Your lawn would appreciate watering at the moment. Get your lawn into good health before the hot summer weather arrives.
🌿Hopefully by this time you've resolved any w**ds growing in your lawn, if you have now is a great time to fertilise your lawn and water it in, if you haven't, check out Bunnings or Ace Ohlsson for products otherwise the hotter weather and regular mowing will eventually see the end of the w**ds anyway.
🐞 It’s a good time to treat your lawn for lawn grubs if you test and find them present after a soggy August and early September. Deal with them before they advance into beetles and attack your lawn.🪲
💚 If you have recently put down some fertiliser your lawn will start to green up but will take a while for you to see faster growth until the soil temperature comes up.

In the garden;
🌈 Everything is looking great at the moment. Fresh new growth on everything, things budding and flowering. It's a beautiful time of the year
🐝With all the new flowers out don't interrupt bees doing their pollinating work, ouch 🐝. I have seen a few wasps just this week also. A good tip if you are getting into some heavy gardening - from a distance use your rake, broom or a blower if you have one and stir up the hedge or plants before you dive in and see if anything comes out.
😎 Enjoy being out in your garden for longer each day when the clock goes forward this weekend.
💀Decorate your yard for Halloween at the end of the month and create an atmosphere for your trick-or-treaters.
