Wow! What a September it has been!

So many wonderful shows that our “cupboard” is bare.
We are working hard to replenish our stocks because we don’t want to compromise on quality and variety when we get out and about again.
We want to say a big “thank you” to everyone who came along to see us at the Stirling Laneways Market recently, and the Adelaide Show. The support was quite overwhelming.
Graham is working at fever pitch - but with a twist to a common saying - a watched plant never grows - they will only grow at their own pace.
Stay tuned to our page for updates as we hope to announce next month some new venues, and our new program moving forward in the lead-up to Christmas.
Unfortunately, our reduced stock levels mean we won’t be attending the regular Willunga Farmers Market either for a while.

Have you been enjoying the warmer weather and sunshine?
We love the sun, but generally speaking, orchids don’t, particularly if it’s hot sun.
That’s why professional growers, including us, use shade houses or glasshouses as they can easily control the sunlight.
If growing your orchids inside your home it is important they have exposure to light, but not harsh sunlight and heat.
Orchids do best when they receive a mix of warmth and cold.
Beware the amount of water you give them too. Usually watering once a week is sufficient, and it’s a good idea to allow the potting medium to dry before wetting again.
If you’d like more tips on how to keep your orchids healthy and blooming watch out for Hidden Valley Orchids at your local shopping centre or market.

Adelaide Hills orchid lovers: We’re heading your way on Sunday.

We’re looking forward to returning to the Stirling Laneways Market.
We know from our experiences at Mount Barker Central Shopping Centre and our first visit to these markets that Adelaide Hills people just love our flowering plants.
The market is held from 9am-3pm in the laneways and spaces coming from the Mount Barker Road, Stirling's main street.
There's lots of entertainment, as well as stalls stocked with the work of local artisans and producers.
It’s the season launch for the market and the theme is .
Why not wear something colourful to help add to the atmosphere. We'll certainly be adding lots of colour with our potted flowering plants, including our orchids and other varieties.
We hope to see you at Stirling this weekend.

Want to keep your orchid indoors?

It’s possible to do so with the right care and attention.
Here are a few tips to help ensure your plant stays healthy and continues to bloom:
- Take care not to over water as orchids can fall victim to root rot.
-Orchids enjoy bright light, but not harsh sunlight and heat, so position your orchid in a bright windowsill facing east or west so it gets shade during the hottest part of the day.
-Feed regularly with a fertiliser.
-Repot in fresh orchid mix when your orchid stops blooming
At Hidden Valley Orchids we’re keen to ensure you keep enjoying your orchids for years to come.
If you’re after some more orchid growing tips, or to pick up your own orchid, head along to Sunday’s Stirling Laneways Market, and look for our stall.

Have you met the man behind Hidden Valley Orchids?

Graham Lambert can be seen at all our stalls sharing his knowledge and tips on keeping your orchids happy, healthy and blooming.
Graham started growing orchids 50 years ago as a young man in Loxton.
He was inspired by many orchid shows and growers around Adelaide, so much so that he owned and operated Riverland Orchids for many years. In fact, he was a foundation member of the Riverland Orchid Society.
Now, having spent some time away from his passion, he has returned to found Hidden Valley Orchids, and takes his plants and knowledge on the road to Adelaide and surrounds.

Keep watching our page for our next travel schedule, and come and say g’day and ask Graham to give you tips on getting the most from your orchid growing experience.

Orchids are one of the most long-lasting blooms.
It’s one of the reasons why they’re so popular, and are often included in button holes and bouquets.
Compared to many other flowering plants, orchid flowers have an impressive longevity. Depending on the species, environmental conditions, and individual bloom, orchid flowers can last several weeks or even months, providing an extended period of beauty and enjoyment. Regular care and appropriate environmental conditions help maximise the bloom duration.
At Hidden Valley Orchids we’re passionate about ensuring you’re well informed about how to keep your orchids happy, healthy and blooming. We even provide free fact sheets with many of the plants we sell.
Keep an eye out for our Hidden Valley Orchids stall at your local market, show or shopping centre. Follow our page to find out where we’ll be visiting next.

Spring has sprung, and orchid growers are looking forward to warmer conditions.
It’s a great chance to get orchids back outside if you’ve had them kept indoors to take advantage of heating and the warmth.
When choosing to relocate outside, just remember to watch out for direct sunlight which is often an enemy for orchids.
We’re excited to be involved in two of South Australia’s biggest events for orchid growers this week.
The Cymbidium Orchid Club of South Australia spring show continues at Westfield West Lakes until Saturday.
Then, from Saturday through until Sunday, September 10, we’re looking forward to supporting the Orchid Club of South Australia’s display at the Royal Adelaide Show.
Keep an eye out for Graham, our grower, who will be supporting both clubs.
We look forward to seeing you soon at your local shopping centre or market.

We just love show season!

It’s been blooming great to be at Westfield West Lakes supporting the Cymbidium Orchid Club of South Australia Spring Orchid Show, which continues to run until Saturday, September 2.
It’s a busy time for our grower Graham Lambert as he volunteers at the Spring Orchid Show, and then moves to the Royal Adelaide Show from Saturday to support the The Orchid Club of South Australia Inc’s stall and display.
The shows provide a great chance for you to see some of the state’s best blooms, including award winners, and to also purchase your own plants, or get some tips from experienced growers.
While the show season continues we’ll be taking a break from the Willunga Farmers Market as we simply can’t be everywhere, but we will be looking forward to returning at the end of September.

Our grower Graham will be among the volunteers at the show which is being held from August 27-September 2. Stalls will be open daily from 9am-5pm.
Get along and see the magnificent array of cymbidiums in flower from right across the state.
