Our orchid club meeting is the 3rd Tuesday of the month. We always have a display and discussion table. These are the plants we looked at tonight. Some are familiar, but some are way out there. Not surprising since orchids are one of the biggest families of flowering plants in the world. Lots of scope for a hobby ... or an obsession🄓

Interested in orchids? Come along to our orchid club meeting this Tuesday May 19th (next Tuesday) 7:30pm at the CWA Hall Kepler St. We have a great mix of growing experience and knowledge - everyone is welcome. We will have orchids in bloom that will be discussed, an orchid raffle, a guest speaker and plenty of "orchid talk" over supper. Use the brains trust to ask questions about your orchids. We can grow a huge range of orchids in Warrnambool, not just those sold in the retail outlets. The pictures show some of these from last May.

Warrnambool's next orchid meeting is this coming Tuesday April 21st. Stephen Stebbing from Orchids on Newbold is speaking. His topics will be Coelogyne orchids and orchid mounts. He will have plants and materials for sale as well. The images show a Coelogyne tometosa spike developing and opening this month.

The meeting starts at 7:30 in the CWA rooms in Kepler Street. Before this there is a social get together for dinner for anyone interested at 6:00 at the Flying Horse. Our group is a diverse group from beginners to experts and anyone with an interest in orchids is welcome. Meetings are free but there are raffles and often plants for sale. There is also a display and discussion table for interest and learning.

"Extras" at this meeting will be information on an orchid seminar and sales day in Stawell in May and information on some native greenhood orchids that will be coming up for sale soon.

At the Australian Native Orchid Society (Geelong) annual tuber sale. Over 200 pots of native orchids (most to still emerge) from Acanthus to Pterostylis. A great way to disseminate stock and decrease the chance of orchids being lost in an ecological incident.

Orchids are not just for the tropics or indoors. They are the biggest family of flowering plants and include hundreds of species and hybrids suited to our temperate climate outdoors. Keep blooms in best condition by growing them under shelter - a veranda, pergola, shade house or even a tree. Find out more at a local meeting. See the pinned post about meetings.

A great looking seminar in May. Speakers are leading commercial orchid growers and experts in their field. It's rare to have so many sellers in one place in a regional area.
