📍🇧🇩 Meet 92-year-old Anarc. He is from Deluti Union in Bangladesh - an area that was severely damaged by Cyclone Remal in May. With torrential rains and 120km/h (75mph) winds, Remal wreaked havoc on low-lying coastal communities, destroying and severely damaging around 170,000 homes.
Our team met Anarc while distributing emergency aid, and he shared his story. Before the cyclone, he said he was “enjoying retirement, living alone, and receiving support from his son.”
When the cyclone hit, he evacuated to a local government shelter. Once the storm passed he started making his way home. He was worried about what would be left of his home and said “it wasn’t looking good.” Unfortunately, his intuition was right, and his house had been badly damaged.
When asked where he was now living, Anarc said he was “still living in his damaged house, a corner of which had survived the storm."
We provided Anarc with a shelter kit, which will help him rebuild his home and make it stronger than it was before the storm hit. He told our team “this has given me hope as I can repair my house and live the rest of my life in comfort instead of discomfort. Thank you so much for your kindness.”
💚 What would you like to say to Anarc as he begins his journey to recovery?
