Separation day. All this ducks on chook eggs and chooks on duck eggs was just getting out of control! So i spent the weekend building a second little chook house and another pen for them. I still left Hannibal in with the ducks because i didn’t fancy getting attacked!

So last Saturday morning we found what looked like a half hatched dead duckling out in the middle of the pen. She was only half hatched out of the egg, stone cold and on closer inspection, appeared to be twitching ever so slightly. Not knowing what else to do, i grabbed her and ran for the incubator in the house (my most recent late night impulse buy from eBay..). After a few hours she started to move a bit more and look a little more alive. By early evening she was trying to sit up in the incubator. I decided she was far better off being raised by an actual duck, as my knowledge of being a duck mum was one google search away from being zero, so i carried her outside and (gently) stuck her underneath Marie (the one least likely to bite and scratch me) and hoped for the best.
Marie happily took her on and we named her Charlotte.
