Ficus Tree - tropical ( although some varieties can survive very low temperatures)
To say we love the Ficus Tree is an understatement. The lush foliage, aerial roots, thick old-looking trunks, impressive root system all add up to the tree’s majestic effect.
In Southeast Asian folklore, Ficus trees have always been associated with otherworldly beings who, according to the old folks, inhabit these trees. In Buddhism, Buddha finally achieved awakening when he sat under a banyan tree for 7 days and 7 nights.
We have several of these trees in our bonsai garden, and we will take in more if given the chance. In the wild, they contribute a great deal to the environment, cleaning up the air and producing oxygen, preventing soil erosion, buffering strong winds, and providing food and shelter to many animals.
Here are the counterparts of some of our bonsai trees in the wild.
