As seasons change, so does our modes of transportation! It felt good to hang up the snowshoes and skis last week, but now that many island clay roads are into their mud season, it means trekking in by foot for our cottage off-season security checks until things dry up a bit. Gotta love April in PEI!

Do you have a home or cottage on Prince Edward Island? Have you ever had it tested for Radon? It is truly alarming how many people are not aware of the dangers of radon gas entering their homes. Although the Canadian Building Codes now requires mitigation systems to be installed in new home construction, anybody living in pre-2022 residences installed on slabs or basements could have potentially high levels of radon - an invisible and odourless gas that has been proven to cause lung cancer.

Island Cottage Services is licensed by the province as Water System Operators. This means that we have the certification that allows us to look after small water systems of up to 100 homes, cottages or campsites. Here is one of the campgrounds we look after at Hurd's Point in Lower Bedeque. This one goes from being empty on April 27th to being completely full on April 28th every year and is used by the local shellfish harvesters.

No matter what the road conditions, we make every effort to get to your island property for our security and storm checks. If we can't get in by truck, we'll get there by quad, snowdog, snowmobile, fatbike, skis or snowshoes!

This type of thing has been happening more on the island, especially since both permanent and seasonal residents have struggled since Fiona to find contractors.
