From builder-basic to spa-inspired.
This transformation was guided by a desire to create a space that feels calm, timeless, and connected to nature. A soft palette of warm greiges, creamy whites, and stone-inspired finishes brings lightness to the room, while layered textures add depth and character. The existing round window became the focal point, framed by a subtle herringbone feature wall that highlights its unique shape. Paired with terrazzo-inspired porcelain, warm wood accents, and a sculptural freestanding tub, the result is a bathroom designed for everyday relaxation.

A well-designed kitchen is all about balance — and this renovation is a perfect example of how colour, texture, and lighting work together to create a timeless space.

For this project, Julianna Dykstra combined:
• White perimeter cabinetry to keep the kitchen bright and open
• A deep blue island to create contrast and anchor the space
• Warm wood accents on the custom hood for added warmth and character
• Brushed gold hardware and lighting for a refined modern finish
• Large-format grey tile flooring to introduce durability and a soft contemporary texture

One of the most important design tips in kitchen renovations is mixing tones intentionally. Using lighter upper cabinetry with a darker island helps create visual depth without overwhelming the space. Natural wood accents also soften cooler palettes and make the kitchen feel more inviting.

The result is a kitchen that feels elegant, functional, and timeless for everyday living.

We recently sat down with Chris Campbell, our Showroom Manager, and Michel Lavigne, our Senior Cabinet Installer with nearly 20 years at DBK, to discuss the importance of workplace safety in the renovation industry.

Both Chris and Michel recently completed their JHSC (Joint Health and Safety Committee) certification, reinforcing DBK’s ongoing commitment to maintaining a safe and responsible work environment.

From handling power tools and heavy materials to staying aware on active construction sites, both shared valuable insights on how teamwork, communication, training, and daily safety practices help keep everyone safe on the job.
