FICUS ELASTICA (RUBBER TREE) 🌳🌳🌳

Here's a clear, concise guide to caring for rubber tree plants (Ficus elastica):

Core Care Requirements

1. Light

- Ideal: Bright, indirect light (e.g., near a window with a sheer curtain). This promotes healthy growth and maintains leaf color.
- Avoid: Direct sunlight (can scorch leaves) and low light (causes leggy growth and faded leaves).

2. Watering

- Rule: Let the top 2-3 inches of soil dry out between waterings.
- How often: Typically 1-2 times a week in spring/summer, and once every 2-3 weeks in fall/winter (adjust based on temperature and humidity).
- Warning: Overwatering leads to root rot (yellowing leaves, mushy stems) β€” ensure proper drainage in the pot.

3. Temperature & Humidity

- Temperature: Prefers 65-80Β°F (18-27Β°C). Avoid drafts, cold windows, or sudden temperature drops below 55Β°F (13Β°C).
- Humidity: Tolerates average home humidity (30-50%), but benefits from occasional misting, a pebble tray with water, or a humidifier in dry environments.

4. Soil & Potting

- Soil: Well-draining, nutrient-rich potting mix (e.g., regular potting soil mixed with perlite or sand for extra drainage).
- Potting: Repot every 1-2 years in spring when the plant outgrows its pot (roots growing through drainage holes). Use a pot 1-2 inches larger than the current one.

5. Fertilizing

- Schedule: Feed with a balanced, water-soluble fertilizer once a month during spring and summer (growing season).
- Avoid: Fertilizing in fall/winter when growth slows down.

6. Pruning & Maintenance

- Prune: Trim leggy stems or remove yellow/brown leaves to maintain shape. You can also cut the top to encourage bushier growth (new shoots will grow from the sides).

- Clean: Wipe leaves with a damp cloth occasionally to remove dust (helps with photosynthesis and prevents pests).

- Pests: Watch for aphids, mealybugs, and spider mites. Treat with insecticidal soap or neem oil if spotted.

What a wonderful weekend at the Springs & Sprouts Plant Sale! 🌿
I’m so grateful I got to be a vendor and connect with so many amazing plant lovers. I met so many kind, passionate people who stopped by our table to chat plants, ask questions, and take home some new leafy friends.
Thank you to everyone who supported my small business, shared your plant stories, and made the weekend so special. Events like this remind me how incredible the plant community is. πŸ’š
Already looking forward to the next one! 🌱
