4.5 days in and I have installed all the standing seam roofing, all the steel siding, all the soffit & fascia, and almost 1/2 of the wood siding.

Easy access and simple details make it easy to be efficient. Love working in these tiny homes for

I’ll be back once the front door is in the finish up the rest of the wood siding. Overhangs and eavestrough will be installed on site at a later date.

Finished this one up just before the holidays for some wonderful relatives. They have lived in this home for the last 35+ years. It was truly an honour to be trusted with the task of refreshing and upgrading this home for the next 35.

The mission here was to give the home a fresh new look, while also upgrading the insulation and air sealing. To accomplish this I removed all the siding, sheathing, and the original insulation from the cavities. The original R7 fiberglass batts were in poor condition and were not installed well.
From the exterior I inspected and repaired the vapour barrier as necessary and installed Rockwool insulation in the cavities. I then re-installed the sheathing and installed Siga Majvest 200. We also replaced 4 windows on the second floor, altering a couple of openings to accommodate some larger windows. Finally, I installed the siding, windows capping, etc etc.

Quite a bit of work for 1 person. It took me about 39 working days to accomplish all this. I’m grateful that my Aunt and Uncle Andy trusted me even when I’m sure it felt like very little was happening. Projects like this involve a lot of painstaking detail work that will never be seen again. I find it extremely rewarding and I hope I have more opportunities like this in the future.

Finished this little beauty in 91 hours over 15 work days. A little more than I would have liked but there was adverse weather, a “lost time injury” and a couple of early days to attend to personal matters which always limits efficiency.

Here you are seeing Hardie Clapboards in Coastal Blue with an accent of Light Grey. 7” reveal. Custom aluminum window trims and Malbec metal corners. Behind the siding is 3/4 vertical strapping with Cora-vent venting at the top and bottom of the wall to ensure proper drying and drainage behind the siding.

As always I am grateful for the opportunity to contribute to this project. I learned a lot and was able to take a walk to the local bakery for a coffee each day. What a life. 🙏

Jamie you are kind, hardworking, reliable, and resilient. Thank you so much for your hard work over the years and for demonstrating to me that it’s ok to slow down sometimes and that it’s possible to be content with what you have.

Don’t let the pretty before and after photos fool you…construction is messy. Scope changes, budgets get stretched, and clients get sick of people banging on their house all day. That’s why we try to share lots of “during” shots, not just the “before” and “after”. Because we already know it was bad before and it looks good now, but what was the process like to get there? Did your contractor clean up after themselves? Did they keep you informed about the progress of the job or leave you in the dark? Did they loop you in at critical decision making points or just plow ahead and hope for the best?
We are looking for clients who care just as much about the process and the performance of their home as they do with that pretty “after” photo.

EVERYBODY loves exterior insulation, the benefits are numerous. It’s like a sweater for your house.

We like to use Rockwool Comfortboard for a number of reasons.

➡️ It is hydrophobic I.e. it repels water

➡️It has excellent sound dampening qualities

➡️ It has great vapour permeability…meaning if water or moisture gets behind it, it can evaporate and pass through the panel easily.

That all adds up to durable, low-risk, high comfort assembly. What’s not to love?
