Most people try to make a home feel expensive at the end.

Better furniture. Better styling. Better finishes.

But if the bones aren’t there… you feel it immediately.

Low openings, thin walls, no transitions — everything reads flat, even if it’s “nice.”

What actually changes how a home feels is harder to see, but impossible to ignore once you notice it:
proportion, depth, and how spaces connect.

This is what we focused on in Westdale — not adding more, but building the right structure from the start.

Open concept made sense for a while. It felt modern. Spacious. Connected.

But here’s what nobody talks about: when everything is visible, nothing has presence. No privacy. No quiet. No sense that one room is different from the next.

Our Westdale project changed how we think about this. We kept a wall the engineer wanted removed and it became the kitchen’s range wall. The anchor of the whole space. Structure that earned its place.

This home got the same treatment. We didn’t open it up for the sake of it. We designed for separation. For intention.

Defined rooms that still connect. Spaces that reveal themselves gradually. A home that doesn’t show you everything at once because the best homes never do.

Simple doesn’t mean luxurious.

Most of the time it just means:fast, easy, inexpensive to build.

What actually feels expensive?

Detail. Time. Craft.

If it looks like it took time, it feels expensive.

This one has been close to our hearts for a while.

Our Westdale Tudor Revival is live on RUE today — a 1930s home that had lost much of its original character after years as a rental, and one we had the privilege of thoughtfully bringing back to life for Hillary and Ben and their two kids.

Instead of defaulting to open concept, we chose to respect what was already there — preserving real rooms, restoring architectural moments, and introducing a new addition that supports how the family actually lives.

The brief was rooted in real life: Canadian winters, school runs, muddy boots. So we built around that — a kitchen that feels architectural and grounded, a 20-foot mudroom that actually works, and a layout that flows without losing its sense of structure.

What we’re most proud of is how it felt the moment it was furnished — calm, layered, and lived-in. Not staged. Not forced.

So grateful to Kelli Lamb and the RUE team for the feature. 🤍

As a couple in design and build, we’re always looking for architecturally rich places when we travel.

This one stays with us for a different reason. It’s not just how it looks, it’s how it feels. Historic, quiet, layered and intentional.

The arches, the hand-crafted Zelige tile, the way every material carries weight without competing — everything feels inherent.

Hotel Les Deux Tours isn’t trying to impress you.
And that’s exactly why it does.

Marrakech, through a design lens — part one.

Renders for this heritage designated home in Old Oakville. Trying our best to bring back the historic feel of this 1908 home. I loved creating these in Sketchup. Which colour would you pick?

One of my favourite parts about this project was all the vintage furniture and decor pieces we sourced. From DIY hauling away this heavy marble dining table from the sweetest elderly couple in Toronto to being outbidded on the oval coffee table that was later reposted for sale the same day by the same girl who outbid me on the original listing. Everything came together exactly how it was supposed to.
