Kootenay Lake is a very important water corridor for migrating birds of all kinds. We have a large number of waterfowl that call the Lake home. Both diving and puddle ducks. The Lake is also home to Common Loons. Kingfishers abound here as do American Dippers that enjoy all the small creeks and rivers that flow into the Lake. On some of these streams and river they also host the Harlequin Duck. Certainly one of North America's fanciest looking duck. species. Songbirds Love the Lake's Riparian area which is large around this expansive bodyof water. Usually one can enjoy shorebirds here as well as the odd Blue Heron which also calls the lake home. If you have never been to Kootenay Lake your missing one of British Columbia's most beautiful places to visit.
