Garden whisperings….

In the green house today. Getting seedlings potted. And quietly a garden hero joined me.

At first glance they look terrifying!

But wait! They are not foe!

These little mud daubers are way more interested in doing good!
They eat bugs you doing care for in your garden! They may drink from dew on leaves if plants just as this one is doing.

So be gentle with our little but mighty garden hero’s! They do a lot of good!

Dear Reader,

One of the biggest questions I get asked is:
“When do I plant everything?”

And honestly?

That depends where you live 🌿

Here in Nova Scotia, the first week of June is usually the big “go time” for warm-loving plants like:
• Tomatoes
• Peppers
• Basil
• Beans
• Cucumbers
• Squash

That’s because our nights finally start warming up consistently.

But cooler crops can go out MUCH earlier!
Things like:
• Peas
• Carrots
• Lettuce
• Spinach
• Kale
• Radishes
• Onions
These plants actually LOVE cooler spring weather.

One of the biggest mistakes new gardeners make is planting everything at once.

Gardens happen in waves 🌱

And honestly? Knowing WHEN to plant is just as important as knowing WHAT to plant.

If I could share this aroma with you. I wish I could!
The jasmine sambac. One of the most amazing, beautiful plants around!

The essential oil is beyond divine!

The aroma is deep, earthy and sweet. It’s a low note that grounds and can feel like a hug from your mom.

Meet the Jasmin Sambac!

This is not something I normally grow. But I will bring this outside when it’s a steady heat and let it basque in the sunshine. Then this early fall, I’ll bring her in to shelter.

Some plants are worth babying. I may not be able to eat this, but it brings joy. Joy is important!

Dear Reader,

Why do I love flowers in my gardens so much?

Because they are more than just beautiful 🌸

A garden becomes a sanctuary.

Even when I’ve only had a single pot on a step or a tiny corner of space, it became my place to breathe, rest my eyes, and reconnect.

Flowers change the feeling of a space.

Right now, the spring bulbs are bringing so much inspiration.
Some of my favourites for pure show are:
• Aromatic daffodils
• Full double tulips

But bulbs do more than look beautiful.

They help protect bare soil, support fungal life in the garden, and feed early pollinators waking up after winter.
They bring colour, life, and honestly… joy.

A garden doesn’t need to be huge to feel magical.
Sometimes one flower is enough to soften a whole day 🌿

Start with the foods you actually LOVE to eat!!!

Not what looks pretty online.
Not a 40-foot garden.
Not 27 kinds of vegetables. (Ask me how I know!)

Start with one salad bed.
A tomato plant.
Fresh herbs by the door.
Things you’ll actually use.

That’s how gardens become sustainable.
That’s how gardeners keep going.
A good garden should fit YOUR life.

And honestly? Sometimes the hardest part is simply figuring out the layout, timing, soil, spacing, and what to plant together.

That’s where I come in 🌿
