The light in Lethbridge right now is something else. Those wonderfully long evenings where the sun comes in low and gold, and every room looks a little softer for an hour or two.

I have always thought summer is when our homes quietly show us what they are for. The kitchen that fills with people. The porch nobody wants to leave. The one chair that catches the late light.

I would love to hear about yours. Which room in your home are you happiest to be in this time of year?

I want to say something that does not get said enough in this work.

You do not have to commit to a big project to bring a designer in.

When I offer a complimentary visit, I mean exactly that. I come to your home, we walk through the space together, and I tell you honestly what I see. There is no proposal waiting at the end, and no obligation to go further.

Sometimes people leave that visit knowing just enough to carry on beautifully on their own, and that is a good outcome. Sometimes they would rather keep going together, and we talk about what that could look like. Either way, they leave with more clarity than they came in with.

I have been doing this for twenty-five years, in all kinds of homes and all kinds of budgets. The people who tell me they cannot afford a designer are often the ones quietly spending on things that are not quite working, simply because no one has helped them see the whole picture.

You do not have to figure this out alone. We sit down, talk about what you want, and start from there.

I hear this fairly often from people who have been holding back from reaching out.

"I'm worried you'll try to change everything." Or: "What if your taste is completely different from mine?"

Honest answer? My taste doesn't live in your house. Yours does.

I work with four very different design profiles, and they could not be more different from one another. One person's perfect space is serene and spare -- the kind of room that feels like a breath of fresh air. Another's is layered and globally collected, full of pieces with a story. Another wants drama and confidence. Another wants something that feels like it has always been there.

My job is to understand which version of beautiful belongs to you, and then help you build it.

I don't have a signature look I'm trying to put in your house. The only look I care about is the one that feels unmistakably like you.

If you want to start by exploring your own style direction, the quiz at quiz.mulberrysdesign.com takes about five minutes. Or book your complimentary visit directly at mulberrysdesign.com.

There's a question I get asked a lot, and I love it every time.

"How does this actually work?"

People want to know what happens when you reach out. What do you say? What do I ask? Is it awkward if your project is small, or if you're not sure what you want yet?

Here's what actually happens.

You book a complimentary in-home visit, and I come to you. Not a showroom, not a video call -- your actual home, the place where you live. I walk through with you, I listen to what's bothering you, what's working, what you love and won't let go of.

By the end of that conversation, you usually know exactly what needs to happen and whether you'd like to keep going together.

There's no intake form. No fee for the visit. No obligation.

If you've been thinking about it, that's a good enough reason to start. Book your complimentary visit at mulberrysdesign.com.

I want to address something I hear more often than you'd think.
"My project is probably too small to bother you with."
It isn't. I promise you.
Some of the most satisfying work I do is in small spaces. A single room that just hasn't come together. An entryway that makes the whole house feel off. A bedroom that should be a retreat but somehow never quite is.
You don't need a full renovation or a blank-cheque budget for me to be useful. What you need is 90 minutes and the genuine desire to stop feeling frustrated by your own home.
A complimentary in-home visit is the perfect first step. Come in, tell me what's not working, and leave with a clear sense of what to do about it.
If you've been holding back because you thought your project wasn't big enough, this is your sign. I'd love to hear from you at mulberrysdesign.com.

A client called me last winter. She'd been living with a living room that felt wrong for years. Everything in it was fine. Nice sofa. Good quality pieces. But she'd walk in after a long day and feel... nothing. Not relaxed. Not welcomed. Just nothing.
She didn't know what was wrong. I did.
The room was organized around the furniture, not around how she actually lived. The sofa was pushed against the wall because that's where she'd always put it. The rug was too small, which made everything feel disconnected. The light was harsh and overhead. And there was a beautiful east-facing window that was blocked by a chair she never sat in.
We moved things. Pulled the sofa forward. Brought in a larger rug. Angled the chair toward the window. Added two table lamps with warm bulbs.
Nothing was replaced. Nothing was purchased that day.
She texted me that evening. "I sat in there for an hour. I didn't even turn on the TV."
That's the whole point, isn't it. Your home should feel like yours. If it doesn't, it's usually not about buying new things. It's about understanding what the space actually needs.
I'd love to talk about your home. Find me at mulberrysdesign.com.

I want to talk to the person who has a thing for blue and white.

The hand-painted lamp. The ginger jar on the console. The lacquered side table they saw at an antique market and still think about. The wallpaper with the delicate painted motif that nobody in their life seems to fully understand.

Chinoiserie is one of the oldest and most sophisticated decorating traditions in the Western home, and one of the most misunderstood. It is not stuffy. It is not old-fashioned, at least not when it is done with intention. It is layered, collected, quietly confident, and when it is paired with good linen, painted wood, and natural light, it is one of the most beautiful things a room can be.

If you are drawn to blue and white, to hand-painted motifs and lacquered pieces and things that look like they came from somewhere interesting, you are not out of step. You are not too specific. You are a Refined Traditionalist with excellent taste and a clear point of view.

And specific is exactly where I work best. If you want a starting point before we talk, the quiz at quiz.mulberrysdesign.com will confirm exactly where your taste lives. Then: (403) 327-5000 or mulberrysdesign.com.

She walks into every antique shop she passes. She has a bowl from a market in Portugal she uses for her keys. There is a painting at the back of her closet she bought at an estate sale six years ago, still wrapped, because she could never figure out where it belonged.

Her home is not unfinished. It is in process. That is different.

The Vintage Mix and Collected Antique way of living is one of my favourite styles to work with, because nothing in the home is arbitrary. Every object was chosen. Every patina was earned. Every piece has a story she can tell you without taking a breath.

What she usually needs is not more things. She needs a thread, something to pull the room together so that all her beautiful, intentional finds can finally be seen as the collection they actually are, not a series of individual objects that have not met each other yet.

That is what a 90-minute Jumpstart Session gives her. We find the thread. $350, and it changes the way she sees every room.

If your home is full of things you love and you just cannot figure out how to make them work together, I want to hear from you. A good first step is the style quiz at quiz.mulberrysdesign.com. It will tell you which profile your collected style falls under. Then call me at (403) 327-5000 or visit mulberrysdesign.com.

Heritage. Symmetry. The kind of room that never goes out of style.

There is a reason certain design elements have been with us for centuries. The Persian rug that anchors a sitting room. Crown moulding that gives a ceiling purpose. The fireplace everything arranges itself around.

If your dream room involves antiques with a story, furniture built to last, and a palette you would describe as properly considered, hunter green and brass, navy and white, cream and warm wood, you might be a Refined Traditionalist.

This is one of the four profiles in the Mulberry's style quiz, and it is one of my favourites to work with. There is such a craft to getting traditional design right. The scale, the layering, the careful mix of old and considered.

Curious about yours? Two minutes at quiz.mulberrysdesign.com and you will have a name and a direction for the home you have always imagined.
