Spilt milk might not be worth crying over… but spilt pots are 🥺🥺🥺

My mom got this pot for me as a gift from Mexico, and today it took a tumble 💔
The plant can be saved… my heart? Jury’s still out 😅
I sure hope she’s feeling generous when she goes back this year 👀😂

Anyone else ever lose a favourite pot and take it way harder than they should have? 😭🪴

🌿 Hey Plant Pals, I’m Brittany, your friendly neighbourhood plant lady…
Let’s dig in. 💚

Just a little friendly reminder before you toss out all those nursery pots, trays, and plant cells… SAVE THEM 👀🌱

If you shop at places like Loblaws, Independent, Zehrs, No Frills, or Real Canadian Superstore (PC/Optimum stores), many of them will take back your clean nursery pots, trays, and cells at the garden centre and give you 100 Optimum points per item 🌿✨

And with grocery prices these days… we really can’t afford not to take advantage of little savings where we can 😅

The best part? Even if you bought your plants from somewhere like Costco, Canadian Tire, Walmart, or a local greenhouse, you can still usually return the containers to participating Optimum stores. So don’t toss them — stack them up in the garage, greenhouse, or shed and bring them back next time you’re grocery shopping 🪴

But personally… when I buy from little local mom-and-pop nurseries, I like to ask if they reuse their trays and plastic pots first. A lot of them do! So if I bought from a local greenhouse, I’ll usually return them there instead — even if I don’t get any points — just because I love supporting local and want to see those little businesses thrive 💛🌱

Those points add up pretty quick… and whether they turn into groceries for the family or a few “free” plants for yourself, I’d call that a win 😌

Did you know about this already, or am I about to accidentally create a whole bunch of pot hoarders? 😆🌱

Keep growing, you’ve got this 💛

Just a friendly reminder… I know those daffodil and tulip leaves start looking a little ugly once the flowers have bloomed and faded away, but don’t cut them back yet!

Those leaves are still hard at work. They’re collecting energy from the sun and storing it back into the bulb for next year’s blooms. 🌼

If you trim them back too soon, the bulb may not have enough stored energy, which can mean fewer flowers (or sometimes none at all) next spring. The more energy they store, the better your blooms next year.

A good general rule of thumb is to wait until the leaves are fully yellowed and naturally wilting before cutting them back.

Personally, I just leave mine until they die off on their own, but I like to hide them a little with other plants — especially hostas. 🌿

Hostas start later in the season, so while the daffodils are thriving and blooming, the hostas are still small and barely noticeable. Then, as the daffodil leaves start to fade, the hostas begin taking off and naturally help hide the messy leaves.

You don’t want to completely block them though — they still need some sunlight. Just enough coverage so they’re a little less noticeable 😅

Did anyone else learn this the hard way after cutting them back too early once? 👀🌷

Hey Plant Pals 🌿
I’m Brittany, your friendly neighbourhood plant lady… let’s dig in. 🌸

This cherry tree of mine took a pretty good beating during the ice storm a couple years back and she’s definitely a little lopsided now 😅

But every single spring she still shows up and puts on the prettiest display of blossoms. A little crooked, a little weathered… but still absolutely stunning.

There’s just something about a tree blooming its heart out after a rough season that feels kind of inspiring 💕

Do you have a favourite tree, shrub, or plant in your yard that you’d never want to lose? Bonus points for pictures 👀🌸

Keep growing, you’ve got this 💛

Can we just take a second to appreciate how absolutely darling fuchsia flowers are? 🧚‍♀️✨

They look like tiny fairy dresses dancing in the breeze. The little dangling blooms, the bright colours, the whimsical shape… they give storybook garden charm and I am HERE for it.

And the best part? They’re surprisingly easy to make more of! 🌱

✂️ How to take a fuchsia cutting:

• Snip a healthy stem about 3–5 inches long, ideally just below a leaf node (where leaves grow from).
• Remove the lower leaves so the bottom part of the stem is bare.
• Optional: dip the end in rooting hormone (helps speed things up, but not necessary).
• Pop it into moist soil or even water.
• Keep it warm, bright, and out of harsh direct sun while it roots.
• In a couple weeks, you’ll usually start seeing roots or new growth. 🌿

Basically… one cute little fairy flower can become MANY cute little fairy flowers. 🤗

Who else loves fuchsia ?
Has anyone else tried taking cuttings ?

Hey Plant Pals 🌿
Your friendly neighbourhood plant lady here… let’s dig in 😅

Tell me why my car magically turns into every greenhouse and garden center I pass… because apparently I have zero self-control 😂

I stopped into Rosepark Landscaping again and ughhh… one of my favourite spots. Her plants are always so healthy and do amazing in my gardens. And the SMELL in the greenhouse 😍 I swear, if I could upload smells into videos, I would. It smells absolutely beautiful in there.

I usually grab plants from the outdoor tables first (they’ve often had a chance to adjust to being outside already), but let’s be honest… I’m still walking through the greenhouse every single time “just to look” and make sure nothing special is hiding 👀🌸 and to just take it in !

Please tell me I’m not the only one…

🌿 Is your car also mysteriously trained to turn into every greenhouse and garden center? 🚗 Or do you somehow possess the strength to drive past?

Some plants are just plain dramatic when they’re thirsty 😂

Before water: I’m dying
After water: Actually… I’m fine.

What’s your most dramatic plant? 🌱

Hey Plant Pals 🌿
I’m Brittany, your friendly neighbourhood plant lady… let’s dig in. 🌼

I used to do full “No Mow May” every year, and honestly I loved seeing the dandelions, clover, grass going to seed, all the bees buzzing around, and birds picking through the yard… it just felt more alive.🐝🐜🐛🦗🪲

Now I’ve kind of met in the middle — letting things grow and flower for a bit in early spring, then mowing around mid-May once everything’s had a chance to feed the pollinators.
I also leave my leaf litter as long as I can, and since doing that I’ve noticed way more native ladybugs around the property too. 🐞

Lately though, with all the tick warnings, I’ve been seeing more people say letting your lawn grow is actually a bad thing. Tick concerns are definitely real, but they tend to prefer moist shady edges, brush, wood piles, leaf litter, and transition areas more than just an average slightly longer lawn.

I still feel like letting nature do its thing for a little while probably helps more than it hurts… but I’m curious what everyone else thinks.

Are you team:
🌼 No Mow May
✂️ Keep the lawn short
🌱 Somewhere in the middle like me?

Keep growing, you’ve got this 🌿
