Brazil - The Basics

Countries are a bit like people in that they are all special, only some are more special than others. Brazil is one of those countries that is just extra special. There are plenty of countries you could describe as a melting pot but Brazil has got to be high on the list as far as diversity goes. Sta

New Post on the lovely little town of Canoa Quebrada, Brazil!

Canoa Quebrada, meaning broken canoe, is a tiny little beach side town in the Northeastern state of Ceará, Brazil. I found it the way I often find random little towns to visit - by zooming in on google maps. I did a little research and decided it would make for a great little stop over between

LOOOOONG TIME NO POST. But the blog is back and i'm finally writing down my travels before I forget. This post is dedicated to my lovely friend Jane McMillan who is off to Mexico soon. xo

MEXICO PART 1 : PLAYA DEL CARMEN http://heliohannah.com/blog/playa-del-carmen

This one is going out to my lovely friend Jane, Misceo Alumni and fellow
adventurer, soon to embark on a little trip to the magical land of the
Yucatan Peninsula in Mexico. I started this post quite a while ago but
never got around to posting it but since Jane reached out for some tips on

Following the guide of my all time favourite travel blogger Legal Nomads, in her home town of Montréal. St Viateur is said to do one of the best bagels in Montréal(and therefore the world) If you ask anyone around here they'll tell you New York bagels are garbage. That's hummus I'm having because cream cheese is the devil's food. P.s this cafe is actually playing Celine Dion 😆

So gutted for Colombia, having recently been there I know everyone I spoke to was hoping for the peace deal to be accepted. Nothing can excuse years of violence perpetrated by FARC and other groups, but the Colombian people want peace, although apparently not enough of them. Re-vote?

http://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2016-10-02/colombia-risks-return-to-war-as-voters-reject-farc-peace-deal

It took Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos’s government almost four years of difficult talks with Marxist rebels to reach a deal to end the country’s five-decade conflict. On Sunday, six days after he signed the deal in front of regional heads of state, Colombians rejected the agreement, handing...

I need this!!!!!!!

Today in how-does-this-thing-exist-and-why-do-we-love-it-so-much: a rideable carry-on called a Modobag that will get you through the airport terminal three times faster than walking.

More on the breathtakingly beautiful north east of Brazil; Olinda and Recife http://www.redbirdsafari.com/blog/olinda-and-recife

Recife and Olinda are two old cities that sit side by side in the north
eastern state of Pernambuco, but Olinda is certainly the star of the show.
It's gorgeous! The historic centre of Olinda is listed as a UNESCO world
heritage site

Got anything planned for dinner yet?

AUTHENTIC PAD THAI http://www.redbirdsafari.com/blog/authentic-pad-thai

One of my favourite dishes of all time, I just don't think you can go wrong
with Pad Thai. Good Asian food is one of the things I miss most about home
(NZ and Australia are both full of amazing Asian eateries and Asian
ingredients are really easy to find there too)...

THE BRAZILIAN NORTH EAST:
NATAL http://www.redbirdsafari.com/blog/natal

This year my birthday week was spent in Natal, Brazil. Natal is the capital
city of the north eastern state of Rio Grande do Norte. Like most holiday
makers and travellers alike, I stayed in the beach suburb of Ponta Negra.
