An alpine garden is such a beautiful welcome to the spring gardening season in eastern Canada. Anne welcomed us into her front garden in Aylmer Québec this past May. Her garden created from scratch on what was once a suburban lawn is a myriad of delicate blossom peaking out from the tiniest of spaces. These little gems of petals intermingle with native succulents and everyone struts their stuff in early spring for the bees and us all to enjoy.

So very pleased to introduce Karen, a fantastic gardener from the South Shore of Montréal, and the beautiful garden plot she has cultivated for over 40 years.
What you do not see in the video, but what deserves a huge shoutout, is the community of gardeners who came together to support one another. The day before filming, Karen unfortunately fell quite ill. After she had spent days preparing for the shoot, an amazing group of family and friends from her horticultural club stepped in. They spent the day with us to ensure the garden could be filmed as planned under the summer's sun.
Kindness in the gardening community is always present. It is such a simple act, yet it is incredibly lasting. Please enjoy the video.

So great to finally be sharing our wonderful day with Dawn in Erinsville Ontario. Her cut flower beds were breathtaking as we headed into cooler weather this past fall. The energy and time she puts into her garden plot is transformed into pure joy when all that effort is bundled up into a simple hand tied bouquet. We got to walk away with one after the day filming and she was right it lasted about 2 weeks on the kitchen counter. Please enjoy some time amongst some flowers donkeys and a couple of drunk bumble bees.

Very happy to share the last of four beautiful gardens from our time in Japan. Kairaku-en: The Garden of Shared Pleasure.
Located in Mito, Ibaraki Prefecture, Kairaku-en (偕楽園) is one of Japan's "Three Great Gardens," alongside Kanazawa’s Kenroku-en and Okayama’s Korakuen. While its peers were often exclusive retreats for the ruling elite, Kairaku-en was founded with a revolutionary social philosophy: it was a space designed to be enjoyed by everyone. With that philosophy in mind please enjoy a moment among the stunning hydrangeas and bamboo of Kairaku-en.

In this episode of Some Time in the Garden, we go behind the gates of Kairakuen in Mito—officially recognized as one of the Three Great Gardens of Japan.Whil...

We rarely post personal messages to this page but this is a little exception this week…

This is a video that we filmed last summer in Oakville, Ontario. Growing up Michael spent a lot of summers just the other side of Bronte creek with his cousins playing in the woods behind the house. Their mother, Aunt Eleanor, who passed away last year was a huge influence to those around her, always chatting, encouraging and above everything finding a way to connect through kindness with absolutely everyone she met. When we started this crazy adventure she followed along hourly by text to each city that we went. Sometimes we spent more time texting her photos of plants around us than concentrating on the shot we were filming…opps☺️. Eleanor encouraged us to find the what made each garden beautiful, gently reminding that it was it was not just the flowers but also the people planting them that held beauty. This is a special one for Michael and we hope that everyone enjoys this little moment meeting both Paula and what her hands have created in her stunning garden. And to Michaels dearest Aunt Eleanor, thank you for being such a great teacher, we continue to learn but we know now that you were right a gardens beauty really does lie in the some of all of its parts both horticulture and human. .
